48RE Potential?
48RE Potential?
Three Part Question:
How much power can the stock 48RE handle, and how much improvement do you gain by going with a billet TC and valve body upgrade?
Finally, what is most likely to roast the tranny......hard launches off the line, or booting it hard when you are in OD lockup?
Thanks again for this great site, and may we all have a Happy, HEALTHY, Prosperous, and accident-free New Year!

The guy (can't remember name) at ATS said if I was just doing a box and exhaust get the T/C for sure and the V/B if I wanted to. Said for towing the 48RE is strong enough but the stock T/C will slip, the clutch material will go into the tranny and kill it. Also said that the guys towing heavy 70-80 mph up grades in OD will kill the stock 48RE regardless of T/C upgrades as the OD clutches can't handle that kind of load, with 1st - 3rd being plenty strong.
