48re Mods
A few guys have told me how hot these trannys run. Are there any mods other than a big cooler and deep trans pan that will cool them down? What would be recommended if I were planning to add a box and a Powershot 2000? What are the differences between the different TC's and what is the best shift kit/valve body that is out there? Thanks
Re:48re Mods
to my knowledge, what increases automatic trans temp is slippage in the torque converter. it is known that the DC tc in the 48re is it's weekest link. junk the tc for an ats tc and this should be resolved - be prepared to spend $.

Unless the TC is so bad that it is prone to leave him on the side of the road, why junk the tc until after the warranty?? 7 years is alot of use (or 70,000 miles).

my point is the stock tc BARELY handles the 305 crank hp -- the original post stated that "potential" bomb mods are on the horizon. in my experience, i don't believe the stock tc can handle much more especially if towing. i have the 48re and i am still convinced that the transmission and tc are the weak link in the entire driveline. (come on now, it's a DC product ;D) but, i'm with you kayjh, me being cheap, i would probably blow up a stock tc a few times under the 7/70 before i got TOTALLY fed up with it and replaced it w/aftermarket
is this the best approach, probably not
of note: as a tc "slips" it release tiny foreign material (tc parts) into the transmission fluid - this is what normally damages the transmission or raises the probability of catastrophic transmission failure.
time will tell w/ these 48re -- i think my ford transmission/tc in my powerstoke excursion is far-and-away better than the 48re in my 3500 ctd 4x4 :-[
cheers, ron
