Nice thing is if something fails and need to take in for warranty work you can pull off this and put the stocker back on as one piece. Can you say paranoid?
Can you post a pic of this mod with your drop in filter? I need a visual.

Wait! Disregard. Looked up the AFE Proguard 7 and it's just a factory replacement -- hence the "drop in" tag. DUH!!!

Talking Installed.

Installed. It was very easy. WD-40 tip really makes the difference. Very clean look. I have NOT removed my tone ring in the turbo. Whine is incredible with this setup and the tone ring installed. Very pleased for $60.00. Sounds fantastic. Pics attached.

If you do this and use these clamps, note the position of the clamps. This is the best way to position them and get a wrench back in there. The tip about pre-tightening them is very helpful too.

Had to trim 1/2 to 3/4" from the elbow that attaches to the turbo. Gave me about 1/8" clearance from the oil filter.

Thanks again for this thread! Again -- very clean and sounds fantastic. Gonna leave the tone ring in.

I have been busy with work lately, but I do have mine on my truck. I am all about "loud" and even my wife asked why my truck "whined" more. I explained to her that I was a good boy and spent $60.00 instead of $300.00ish dollars on a aftermarket one. The only thing i did to mine was smoothe out the pipe where the tube was cut. I would like to put a open element filter on mine to replace the factory air box, but I'm not to sure on what direction to head with it. Any of ya'll have a suggestion on what type of filter & how to install it?

I'd hate to have to cut holes in the darn thing.

From what I've read, that is exactly what you'll have to do to get more air into the stock box.

The filter minder will show dirty on a brand new stock truck with a clean filter. That's what mine and all my friends saw when they looked under the hood the first week we owned them.

Ditch the filter minder, just like the aftermarket kits do. A good visual inspection is more accurate than the filter minder anyway.

I am about to do this mod along with adding a Amsoil nanofiber dry filter that I keep reading good things about. I think it will be a good combo with good filtration and good turbo whistle.

I put on an AFE torque tube. By the time I woul have gotten all those elbows across the border, the cost would have been close to the same.

Then, I went to home Depot and spent another $21 for a 4" flange, window screen, some hose clamps, and 4" tube. I strategically placed a screen and the flange on the bottom of the the air box after cutting a 4" hole. Mounted the tube straight down for about a foot in front of the inner fender liner. I finished off with some more screen and a clamp on the bottom of the opening.

Sounds great!

Question

I did all of this and my hoses have held up very well. I was thinking about going to a BHAF, have anyone added one to this set up??
