315x70x17 BFG's on stock rims? price? etc.?

On monday, I'm having 315x70x17 BFG AT's put on my truck's stock rims. I'm paying $750 out the door trading my BFG rugged trail tires w/ 600 miles. Is this an acceptable deal? I'm having it done at Tire Kingdom. They are matching a deal I was getting from Discount Tires. THe catch is that Discount would not mount the tires on the stock rims. They said they were too narrow. What is the general consensus here? I know everyone is getting the hummer wheels and tires, but I like the stock rims, and do not want to buy wheels that I have to machine. As long as Tire Kingdom will warranty them, I shouldn't have anything to worry about, right?

Will these tires fit my stock truck?
I have the 4.10 gears and hope to improve my milage.
What do I have to do to get my speedo and computer recalibrated?
Isn't there a special number I need to tell the dealer?

I ran bfg at ko's 3157517 on my 2005 2500 4x4 for about 4 months. They felt fine to me...as long as I was under 65 mph. I thought the truck felt pretty loose, for lack of a better term, over 65. I think im going to stick to 285's or try and find some 295's for my 2006 with the stock rims.

You got a good deal and the tires will be fine. I have a couple thousand on mine, hwy and city, and would get 'em again. I do have a slight scub on the passenger's side, this will be fixed shortly I hope.

Totally stock suspension, and wheels. I got mine brand new for for 96$ a piece (i still have the old tires) That was when i worked for a trie store I had my speedo recalibrated at the dealer (45$). I have 3.73 gears and the truck pulls whatever i want. It has all the power it had before and more.

P.S. get the revs per mile number from their website.

I have over 32,000 miles with BFG 315s on stock 17x8 wheels. About half the time on stock alloy and the other half on stock chrome clad. You will get a little cupping and middle wear, but not much. I have had mine off road some and I have had them over 100mph in 4wd at the drag strip. I would rather have them on 17x8.5s, but just weren't any available until lately.

Go to tirerack.com and they have a chart that tells you the revs per mile that you need to get your speedo recalibrated. You may get a little rub at full lock but it's nothing to worry about... I had no wear issues but you will most likely drop 1 mpg city with those tires. Hwy mileage probably will stay the same...

I had my speedo recalibrated today, and even though I told them to use 601 revs per mile, they used 605. Is this going to make enough difference to worry about, or will my trip computer and such be pretty darn close?

I also had the high idle control activated. Definitely a cool feature.

The tires look great (pictures to follow), don't rub, and the truck still drives great (4.10's really help I think). Now, I should be able to get the milage that most of you are claiming.

One last thing,

what tire pressures are everyone using w/ 315x70x17's on stock rims or otherwise.

I'm running 50psi frt, and 40 psi rear unless towing or hauling, then 50psi all around.

Thanks,

Troy

i would lower that air pressure down, mine are running 35-40 PSI and i worn out my centers on my tires.

trax214, I too had the same issue with Discount Tires. They refused to mount the tires on my rims so I had to take it to another tire dealership. Now I know why. It is of my opinion that these tires should not be mounted on stock rims, and BFG agrees. They state a minimum wheel width of 8.5" and the stock wheels are 8". That may not sound like alot, but it is. While these tires look great on the truck, and I got them for an excellent deal, here are some of my posts regarding them

My wear pattern on stock rims
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...314#post658314

Add to that, I'm having the worst time trying to get them to balance. I have to religiously do rotations/balancing every 5000 miles so they don't shake my truck apart. Its gotten to the point where a week ago, I broke down and spent $200 on a set of Centramatic wheel balancers in hopes to smooth out the ride. So far, the Centramatics have helped a ton.

Until I find a 9" wheel that has the factory backspacing, then my next set of tires will be 285, 295, or 305. 315 are simply too big for the stock wheels.

Now, the positive is that the tire does wear well. I've got 31K on the set of mine and I think I can get 50K out of them easy. I am like Dodgezilla, in that I keep them aired to 45psi.

Ok, I agree that stock rims are questionable because of rim width. Like I said I have had BFG 315s on stock rims for over 30,000 miles. I have a 2" leveling spacer kit and Rancho shocks, all done at the same time. The front end was aligned and alignment since then has been correct. The wear on the tires from cupping is visable, but not bad and will probably not take a lot of mileage off of the tires. I do not tow anything heavy or haul heavy loads. If I did I would not have 315s on the truck at all. One piece of advise I will give is do not run the tire pressure below 45psi in the front ever. This can lead to dangerous DW issues. I know from experience. I run 50psi all the way around now. The ride is a little stiff, but it is a heavy duty 3/4 ton 4x4 truck.

When it is time for new tires I will decide what tire I want and will change to the proper rim size for that tire.

I run my 315's on stock rims at 42 psi all around. I do not tow or haul anything in the back but if I did, I would pump them up to over 50 psi for safety reasons. Even at 42 psi, I am noticing that I still do not get FULL tread pattern on the ground. I have about 5000 miles on them so far and plan on rotating them soon. Haven't had a problem yet with them. Have run them right up to Redline (about 112mph). Not shakes or anything but I use Innovative Beads inside for balancing, about 8 oz for each tire.

One Stop Shop ?

Is there a website that can tell you what tires fit what rims? You would think by now that there would be such a website.

elk311, every tire manufacture generally has that information on their web sites. Also, www.tirerack.com generally will give that information as well on the tires that they sell.
