Recalibrate is easy.

It takes the dealership all of 5 minutes to recalibrate the speedo. Why would you drive around your expensive truck without the speedo recalibrated, unless you don't/can't go to the dealer often. On the BFG website, it'll tell you the revs/mile that you need to enter for any of their tires, so your speedo is accurate. Mine recalibrated is dead on according to my GPS.

I had the dealer recalibrate everything the day I installed the new tires. One big difference I have noticed is that I no longer keep looking for the 7th gear as the RPM's are much lower at cruise. Acceleration has sufferd a bit below 1500 RPM but as I said earlier, once the turbo spools up, I can't really tell the difference.
On stock tires and cruising at 60-65 MPH I can get close to 600 miles to a tank. The 315's give me the same, so there is not much difference. Cruising at 70-75 mph does drop the mileage down to about 520 miles to a tank. Combined city (mostly city) and highway driving gives me about 450-500 miles to a tank, depending on how aggressive I drive. Anybody have similar numbers?

I've got BFG 315s. My speedo has been corrected. I've got a 6-spd w/ 3.73s. At 70 MPH I'm right at 1950 RPM. On the highway I can get around 21 MPG unloaded and usually get 650 miles out of a tank. In the city I go down to about 17 MPG. I didn't really notice any loss of performance...if any it was minimal.

so before I read everyone said the 285s were the best overall for looks and performance on our trucks....now it appears a whole host of you have 315s on stock suspensions.

Okay before I spend lots of money....which will I be happier with for looks and overall performance without any lift or leveling kit installed. Occasional rubbing at a tight hard turn does not bother me as my Cherokee did that with my 31s...

I drive truck daily....hunt every weekend during season...tow occasionally but usually not more than 5-6k....

Great info so far....just wish there were more choices in tires out there but BFG seems to be most popular....but not very many stores online or local carry the 17inch tires.

In I bought 285 70 r 17 toyo's but thought I was getting 305's. Thanks 4wheel parts wholesalers. Anyway I told them I wanted 33's becouse thats what everyone said on here would fit on the stock rims with no rubbing and now I wish I would have gone with the 35's. Oh well after the clutch is on that wil give me a good reason to burn the new rubber at every chance.

Brock,
I'd go with 315s personally. I think they look better, and I have had no problems with mine. I use mine as a daily driver. If you're towing and hauling make sure to get E rated tires. Mine are D but I hardly ever tow and if I do it's only ~3000 lbs.

I am in CA so if I am not doing 75 I would hold up traffic. With stock sized Toyo AT I could get 520 miles out of a tank with a light load @ 70-80mph all freeway. I imagine if I wanted to drive at 60-65 I could get much better mileage.

Yes, its a well aged thread, but, please DON'T put 315/70-17s on if you plan to tow anything of consequence with a 3.73 rear end, particularly with the 48RE trans that is short at least two gears. I just put on 295/70-18s that are nearly the same diameter as 315/70-17s after thinking my old tires were taller than they were instead of LOOKING at them. I've now got a disaster when towing the fiver from between 20 to 50MPH. I'm headed to 4.11 gears from 3.73s after going 34 miles over Toyo's 500 mile swap-out if not happy promise. Sigh, tomorrow. I love how the 295s ride, however.

As my buddy found out switching to them on his 95 (after running 315/75R16E) they're only a D rating and wear out faster - must be a softer compound.

I kind of split the difference and went with 285/75's, they basically come out to the same diameter as 315/70's but not as wide.. Also my Nitto Dura Grapplers 285/75's have a 128 load index rating which is the highest rating I have found on any tire in this size range..
