2003 Std duty Turbo upgrade
2003 Std duty Turbo upgrade
I have a 2003 Ram with the standard duty 250 hp engine in it , I`m looking to upgrade the turbo. The original turbo (he341) was replaced with a used and tired He351. There is almost no difference in power and fuel millage has dropped some but drive pressures have dropped also. The truck has an air intake , silverline exhaust and a smarty jr. programmer on it. It runs well but I regularly pull 12k and looking for just a bit more power any suggestions would help greatly ! I have been looking at an He351w 64x89 turbo or a 67x76 would either of these help me or should I just buy a rebuild kit for my 351 with a better wheel ? I see all these different turbos and I`m not an expert in this field so I`m looking to you guys to help with my upgrade ! I`m not racing it just towing and would like a bit more on the top end. Thanks
For anyone else looking at upgrading an '03, I had a 2003 6spd SO that I put an HE351 on(stock) and it made a big difference. Spooled faster and made more boost and lowered egts. I did have an Edge J/A on it. Not sure if a 351 would make a difference without a chip/programmer. Also there is a small mod that needs to be done to it to disable the wastegate.
