06 smarty questions. the SC is getting the axe
well im tired of all the problems getting info out of superchips. the poor guy there "Ron" is having to field questions that he really doesnt have the answers to. after talking to him for about an hour he extended the offer for me to return the product for a refund and im taking him up. no hard feeling, it makes great power but i want the rev and speed limiter up as was advertised and they cant offer that right now. so im thinking about the smarty or module. what im looking for:
1. reasonable safe for a stock 48re
2. some milage increase would be nice
3. smoke...nuff said
4. good power
5. tire adjustablilty
6. either very quick downloads or on the fly adjustability
7. not going to leave any foot prints
im not wanting to spend 2k on a TC and VB right now so i dont wanna go extreme. probably would use CL or anything like that. i dont really understand the 0-9 levels of the smarty and i hear alot of good things about it. so if someone could enlighten me id appreciate it. whats the differences between say 130hp and 130hp w/ timing? what all does the timing do? how are the 06's are the bugs worked out yet?
thanks

well i am sure that 973604x4 will be on here in a min to say the SMARTY will kill your truck so I hope you read my post first...
the SMARTY is a good stand alone programmer that is undetectable by the dealer. You can pick how aggressive of a program you put on your truck, and if you stay below SW#5 you should be fine on your trans as long as you use common sense. boosted launches will kill any trans especially when adding a SMARTY...
Some people do not like the way the SMARTY fuels, they say it is to aggressive for rainy driving and slick roads, my opinion is they have no control over their foot, and need to learn drive as if there is an egg under the pedal, but that is unacceptable to them.
SMARTY is great for dropping your EGT's and also adds to the fuel mileage a bit.. The program writer for SMARTY frequents this board and listens to his sutcomers and does everythign to make them happy...
It is worth the money in my opinion....

Ok, i just installed the smarty on my truck(#3) then drove to the tire store to put on 315/70/17 Goodyear AT Extreme's. Was very impressed with the smarty. Good manageable pour and some smoke,if you are into that I dont really care. After tires were installed I reprogrammed for the tire size and put it on #5. Lots of power and more smoke when you hammer it. Feels great when light on the throtlle. It takes off like a rocket from 60 to 90! It will spin the 315's from a dead stop. So far, only 20 miles, happy. After the urges die down I will take a trip to see how the milage is affected.
thanks for all the quick responses. i usually drive pretty easy and dont have a need for any boosted launches. how long does it take to go from one level to another. and what does it do to get the egts down.

If you have allready put the superchips in your truck, it's too late, the dealer can see that. If not, then you are okay.
I wouldn't say there are any "bugs" in the '06 Smarty, but, I would say, not everybody likes the way the proghramming feels, especially on TC lock-up, and the O.D. shift.
The Smarty doesn't riase the rev limiter yet. We are still stuck at the 3,500rpmbut it does raise the full power govener to about that point. I am not sure about the speed limiter, although I think it doesn't touch it...
I've been wrong before...

HappyGA, you should be a salesman
Every downloader works differently on every truck. nuff said.
I've seen the Smarty work wonders on an 04 then put the SAME smarty on an 05 and it goes nuts.
Both trucks had the bully dog pre-smarty and both are identical built.
Downloaders can make or break ya.... If you get one that works right and doesn't screw you truck up your golden. If not then its a disaster.

Smarty doesn't always work awesome. No one can argue that. read the forums and find the evidence.
Quick downloads? those advertised 2 minute downloads or "the fastest downloader".....yea its just the same as bullydog if not longer. we timed it.
But Brett-If the smarty works well for you, you'll like it. Ad removed site violation
Why the hate? You have your positive opinion of the Smarty and I have my negative opinion of the Smarty. whats the difference? you should be a salesman. good point Luken.

Well it was most definately faster than the bullydog on my truck. Not sure why there would be a difference but the smarty is noticably faster downloading than the BD.
I like it. Im running it by itself so i dont have the timing rattle and whatnot that people stacking it are complaining about. I like the fact that it has so many more settings than the BDTD. As far as power, it feels like it comes in sooner than the BD and stays there, which is nice. I can still drive in the rain (which its doing right now) and not have any control issues. I havent gone above SW#5 yet so i cant comment on the rest of them. Im getting about 18.5 mpg with it set on #5. I took a 3.5 trip last weekend and my mileage on the interstate seems to be better than with the BDTD. So far i like it alot. I think im gonna load SW#7 and see if my clutch can take it.
i think the smarty is under 7 bills and the SC can be found on ebay around 325 to a dealer at 450ish i think. SC makes great power, but they didnt deliever what i wanted and was promised so thats why i want to try something different. if you get them and dont have the expectations i did, youll love them. i always said nothing but good things and defended them. its a good product for what it is. and i dont know about the tranny protection. i dont think so though. some of the other guys can answer that better than me

Im honestly not trying to start a war here but it isn't SUPER fast. It still takes a good amount of time. It is faster than the bully dog a couple of minutes or so...
