05 ctd mods where to start
05 ctd mods where to start
U guys probably have went through this hundreds of times but if u dont mind giving me some advice I'd appreciate it. My buddy has a 05 longbed 6 speed with 14,000 miles. He's ready to spend some $. I don't know much about the 3rd gens. I'm a 2nd gen at least for now. I know he'll need a clutch and I told him I love my edge juice and recommended it but I've heard good about the smarty and tst also. How about fueling, injectors, intake turbo? They've got to be better stock than my o1. I was thinking a clutch and a box and he would probably be happy. Thanks for the info.
Bombing
After having spent the best part of two years bombing my truck then I'm going to depart from what I've seen hundreds of times on the forum and not automatically say gauges.
Instead I think the place to start is to determine where your bud intends to finish? For example, let's put it into terms of whether he intends to run 1/4 mile, .... or does he intend to pull,.... or does he want to just enhance a wee bit over stock? How much $$$ is he willing to spend and is he able financially to just do all the needed upgrades or does he need to do it say one bomb at a time and then wait six monts and then move on. It makes a difference,... because you need to be able to drive the truck while you're building it.
If he goes more than a little bit in the bombing of his truck he will be unable or unwilling to pull it all off to go to the dealer should something come up and so if he wants to keep his warranty then that is another prime consideration factor.
Another driver for a lot of guys is getting to a level of HP &/or torq that will make them happy.
Run some of this by your bud and then some guys could give you recommendations.

Awesome advise ! I needed your words of wisdom a year ago. I did as I always do and learned the hard way.
i would say the best thing to do is find out which road your buddy wants to travel down but if he is planning to drag or pull i would say start with guages. then intake and exhaust. but an intake isn't really needed if he is only going to lightly bomb it.
