Love my 03 SO. I put a TST box on it and 40hp F1 injectors and I still get 21.5 to 22.5 MPG running empty. I only run the TST on the 2 power and 2 torque setting. You might check to see if the lift pump has been upgraded that is one of the problems with his year. Many have been upgraded to and in tank lift pump. I myself went with a Glacier setup on the frame rail so that if it needs changing in the future it is easily accessable. There are several other external lift pump opptions also. The 03 came without a cat which is plus in my book. They do not have the third injection event that some of the later commonrails have that reduces fuel milage. I guess it is obvious that I really love my 03 and do not plan on moving up unless it gets totaled or something like that and even then I would probably look for another 03 or 04 either SO or HO.

I have the 2003 SO 5 speed. I use a Smarty programmer. Before the Smarty, I used to have problems towing an 8,000 lb 5er up the 20 mile grade out of San Diego. Now I tow the 13,000lb 5er with no problems. Put in a few extra gauges to watch temps/pressures and it feels like a new engine!

A Smarty not only gives it more pulling power for towing, it also just wakes it up. Better throttle response, better passing, better sound and better mileage with advanced timing. Did I mention I like mine?

loved mine. dont put a quad on it went thru 3 sets of injectors when i had one on it. also put a good fuel filtering system on it. when you get a chance put a better input shaft on the tranny and fix the 5th gear.
