Thanks for all the good advice! I will have to get an auto as I will not be the only driver from time to time. Also, if it becomes a daily driver, I don't think I will like shifting in city driving all the time checking on jobs for my work.

Also, in the 6.7 new and used trucks that I test drove the EB did not seem as powerful as the Pacbrake EB that I had in the GM. Are the manual BD or Pacbrake more powerful compared to factory EBs?
If you go with the 5.9 and the older 4-speed automatic, spend a little of the money you would save getting the 5.9 on a transmission upgrade and that will make the older 4-speed auto bulletproof. And through in an exhaust brake to boot.

I would not really modify the truck like some of you. I usually leave my DRW pretty stock except for a mild tuner for towing or mileage. I plan on weekend towing and mostly empty riding.

Get the 4.10 gears for sure no matter if you get a 5.9 or 6.7 pulling that kind of weight.

Wish I could connect my old 5.9 to the six speed auto. That would be great. The "stock" 6.7 is disappointing with all the emissions crap. The fuel mileage suffers. I could get an honest 20-22mpg with my stock 5.9. Lucky to get 17mpg with the 6.7. The six speed auto and the EB are great features though.

I'd say it's a toss up. If you like fuel economy, go for the 5.9. If you like fuel economy and the six speed with EB, buy a 6.7 and "Fix" it.

I loved my 5.9 but with the 6.7 and 6 spd auto, I'll never turn back. Amazing combo. I just pulled an 11k trailer the other day and it felt like nothing. Phenomenal.

Sorry I haven't replied receintly.

The Sun Coast upgrades are real good. I remember the one diesel shop here in NH where they dealt exclusively with Sun Coast and their main mechanic had his 4-speed tranny all beefed up and he pulled sleds in competition all the time.
A few thousands bucks on the tranny and your all set.

Ive heard good things about Suncoast.

Ive heard better things about Dave Goerend. Called his shop yesterday and his 68re builds are ready to go. Now if I could just find about 7500 bucks.

how loud does this make it? I know its ridiculous to ask for a quite straight pipe but how can I keep the noise down?

to tell you the truth, i think the 5 inch back is really quiet compared to my old 04 cummins with 5inch back.. its in the turbo. I truely feel that if you bought a 5inch from mbrp with a muffler you would be supprised how quiet it is. not very loud and sounds good. my opinion these new trucks just aint really loud compared to the old ones.

Ditto

You can have it as loud, or as not loud, as you want it to be. A donaldson 51" muffler would have to quiet it down. Heard the aero turbines are really quiet too.

IMO the stocker kept it quite quiet too.
