spin on transmission filter

I have a 2007 dodge 6.7 cummins. From an earlier post I received good advice to not flush my tranny. Now that I've decided to change out the filter and fluid I'm wander about the spin-on filter. Is it up under the pan where I'll see it after I drop the pan? Also, does the Mag-hytec pan stick down below where the stock pan does and should I worry about the occasional rural road driving where I may have to straddle something?

You need to change both filters at the same time. The spin on filter is filtering oil that has been return from the cooler. Also there is a o-ring that needs to be removed when replacing this spin on filter. A new o-ring is included with the spin on filter. Use a seal pick to remove the o-ring first, this was the easiest way for me to get the seal out.
I also run a Mag-Hytec pan and never had any issues with this pan. The pan does not hang down that far to worry about clearance issue on a farm road or off-roading on a farm field.
The only time I would worry about is if you are dragging bottom when you are in a mud hole, with the truck buried past the frame.

As stated, you will need to change both filters, both are under the pan. I paid $70 CDN for the pair, just last week. I run a PML extra deep pan. Both the Mag-Hytech and the PML pans hang lower than the stock pan. That's where the extra fluid capacity comes from. They don't hang down past the cross member, so you should have no problems, unless you are rock crawling.
