P2704
I got this code he other day in a routine check of codes for my own curiosity mostly, the truck drives fine, pulls as hard as it always did.
a quick search shows nothing on the matter on the DTR site but a further search led me to this, P2704 - Transmission Friction Element 'E' Apply Time Range/Performance.
by the sounds of it that's not goo.
I cleared the code and it came back again today, anyone run across this one before??

From the service manual:
P2704..INADEQUATE ELEMENT VOLUME 4C
For a complete wiring diagram Refer to Section 8W. Theory of Operation
The volumes of the transmission fluid needed to apply the friction elements are continuously monitored and learned for adaptive controls. As the clutch friction material wears, the volume of fluid needed to apply the clutch increases. Certain transmission mechanical problems can cause near-zero learned volumes resulting in setting a DTC. The DTC will usually set with other DTCs, which indicates an internal transmission problem.
• When Monitored:
Whenever the engine is running. The 4C clutch volume index (CVI) is updated during a 4-5 upshift with throttle angle between 10 and 54 degrees. Transmission temperature must be at least 43° C (110° F).
• Set Condition:
When the 4C CVI falls below 5.
Possible Causes
BROKEN 4C RETURN SPRING OR DISLODGED SNAP RING
BROKEN 4C ACCUMULATOR SPRING(S)
HYDRAULIC LEAK IN THE VALVE BODY
TRANSMISSION SOLENOIDrrRS ASSEMBLY
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
At least it will explain some of the causes.

thanks for the description, I'm just curious why my mini maxx says a P2704 is a "Transmission Friction Element 'E' Apply Time Range/Performance."

There's different descriptions for codes depending where you look. I like using the factory service manual descriptions. I figure thryre the ones who should know.
Of course I can't help much beyond offering you the diagnostic causes but it does give you a place to start.
Hopefully TransEngineer can jump in here with his input. To narrow it down for you.

ok, so that got expensive, when its all said and one i now have a new shiny rebuilt trans courtesy of excell transmission in red deer, 4C clutch, low sprag and someother stuff gave up, hoping its the last time I have to do that, its not cheap haha
