Oil Leak in 2007 6.7L CTD
Oil Leak in 2007 6.7L CTD
I recently bought a new 2007 Mega Cab, 6.7 CTD, 4X4 Laramie. After 3000 miles my computer was telling me to change the engine oil. Upon taking it to the mechanic to get it changed, he asked me to come under the truck and take a look.
When I went under the truck, I saw that there was oil all over the oil filter and also all over the chassis as it must have been dripping.
I took it to the dealer and he said that the oil filter wasn't tightened enough. He changed the engine oil at no charge and also cleaned the underside of my chassis.
That was 800 miles ago and I just got under the truck this evening and guess what, the same thing is happening.
Does anyone know what the issue may be. I was thinking a bad filter seal??
Help is appreciated.

My new 3500 RAM has been leaking oil since the day I bought it. It's a small leak coming from the front of the engine. Two dealers tried to fix it and couldn't. A third dealer told me the truck had to be left for a few days in order to tear down the front of the engine. I couldn't leave the truck because I was moving my mother at the time. Right now, I'm in Leesburg, Fla and will try to find a dealer that's willing to tackle the problem. My next step will be trying to get Dodge to pay for a rental car since I can't be without a vehicle that long. The leak doesn't appear to be getting any worse and the truck runs beautifully, so I'm not in a huge rush. Still, it better get repaired next time because "3 strikes" and the lemon law could kick in. I don't want to go that route, though.

Hopefully its something easy on my end. I actually live in Louisiana, but bought the truck in Texas. I am currently in conversation with the Texas dealer I bought it from to get the problem resolved.
Its not a good feeling paying that much for a vehicle and having this kind of problem. Maybe after 100,000 miles, but not 4000 miles.

Check this.......
Check the oil cooler line going to the turbo.
It will be a steel braided line running from the housing the oil filter screws into and runs to the turbo housing.
Where the line is attached to the oil filter housing is probably leaking from the housing.
The problem is that it only leaks when the engine is running and it blows a small amount of oil EVERYWHERE so it looks like it's running off of other areas.
I had to replace the housing after trying to re-thread the line twice.
At that time they were on backorder, but should be available now.
I hopes this helps you.
