JUST CHANGED OIL IN MY 08 FOR THE FIRST TIME, IF THAT AINT A PAIN IN THE A$$ I WILL PITCH IN WITH YALL. DOGE IS REALLY TRYING TO WEED OUT US OLE SHADE TREES. NO ROOM TO PULL THE FILTER GOTTA LUV ALL THE SMOG BS.SORRY TO GO ON A RANT . HOPE YALL HAD AN EASIER TIME THAN I.

 

you aint kidding i just changed mine two days ago. They sure dont make them easy for the do-it yourself guys any more.

 

I have an '07.5 but I imagine the oil filter is in the same position as yours. What I do to make filter removal easy is to use the filter made by K&N. This filter has a nut welded to the bottom so you can use a ratchet wrench to easily remove it. Using this method I find filter replacement to be the easiest part of the oil change procedure. And, I've never spilled a drop of oil when removing the filter.

 

12 to 20 bucks depending on where you shop.

 

go up from the bottom with a strap wrench and it is a piece of cake 2 min job...

 

Run an extended drain oil and a bypass and don't worry about it as often

 

did mine, was as easy as my 05, even my 94. I loosen the filter, put a 1 gallon bag around it, finish taking it off, drops in the bag, no mess. I pull whatever it takes to get to the filter, hose from box to turbo etc.

 

I had an '08 and it sure as heck wasn't as easy as my '05. The first time I changed it on the '08 I hated it (filter was a bear to get at, it was on so tight from the factory that it broke my 7 in 1 tool, and there is a LOT more smog garbage and other assorted clutter on the '08 to fight through)..

I sold the '08, so I don't have to mess with it anymore. Miss the six speed auto and jake brake though.

 

I found out at -30 below zero it was easier to pay the dealer $12.88 to change the oil for me. I think its a lot nicer to just watch someone else do it for me.

 

Yall should take it to Wal Mart! YALL dont save much doing it yall self.

 

I agree...I have the service package for my Diesel so it goes to the dealer for now, but my Jeep goes to Walmart. $38.00 gets oil change, clean windows, vacuumed interior, all fluids checked/topped, Air Filter, and 4 tire rotation.

 

$12.88? Wow even with our bad exchange rate I would never get that here. The local lube shops charge well over $80 for a diesel..

 

Piece of mind of doing the work yourself and not some slob that makes $8/hr. and doesn't care about my truck.........PRICELESS !!!

 

not a good idea, Im sure Walmart pays their oil change guys minimum wage and they could care less about your truck and whether the job gets done right. I won't EVER let someone else change my oil.

 

I guess I should of worded it better, I pay the dealership $12.88 to install my oil and filter. BTW my dealer use to have diesel oil changes for $39.99 oil change but the price was raised last month to $49.99, it includes up to 13 qt's of oil and a Mopar oil filter.
