6.7 trucks are 07.5 and newer. 5.9 is in the 07 and older. both are on the left side of the motor. the 6.7 is a spin on filter, the 5.9 has a cartridge style filter. welcome to the board. fill out your signature so we know what ya got to better help ya.

Add what ruck you have to your signature, and welcome. It's basically the fuel filter. if you got an ownwes manual, it will be in there. Water doesn not mix at all with diesel, so there is a seperator/filter with a water in filter warning light and a valave on the unit to drain any water.

In all my diesel years, i've never seen a drop of water in my fuel. I do make a habbit of shopping at one place all the time unless im traveling. Water seems to not be much of an issue at established fuel stops. ususlly guys get water in fuel from filling with cans of stored fuel or stopping in a hole in the wall station in the middle of nowhere.

Alot of folk say to carry a spare filter and tools to change but I never have and have nevewr needed to. I just hope i don't get bit by just saying that.

The most important thing you can do is install a fuel pressure gauge. Search on lift pump failuers and you'll get tons of info. basically, the lift pump a.k.a fuel pump fails yet it still runs cause the injector pump can still draw fuel, but it kills it quickly. A LP will be a several hundred dollar fix. An inhector pump will be a several thousand dollar fix, so you can see a $100 Fp gauge is very cheap insurance.
