Mounting Brake Controller

Just mounted my Prodigy, However when I have time I would like to recess it a little more. Has anyone had that part of the console off? What is directly behind the plastic? I know there is a metal piece that runs up on both sides but does it also go across? I just plan on removing enough to maybe slide my controller back about 2-3" Just wouldnt want to start cutting into it to find something else blocking me.

I remember seeing some pictures on here of one removed and I think you are fine. I'm sure someone else will chime in with better info.

It is just an open space behind, my uncle mounted a cb in that same spot.

Can that piece be removed by itself? The lip all the way around suggests it can be.

Yes it removes by it's self, on the mega cabs there is a piece of pipe that runs flat on the floor behind it for the rear heat/ac

So I guess this begs the question so I dont break it, is it just held in by clips? and will a flat tip suffice or Do I need a special tool?

on my 07 QC, you first need to remove the center console on the floor. There are a few screws holding that piece which are covered by the console. Do a search for any installation instructions on a head unit because they have to get that same piece off before the head unit. each piece reveals screws for he next piece, etc.

Yes, remove the center console first as I think there are some screws behind it on the bottom. That is where I mounted my prodigy and I just cut a rectangular slot for the connector to clear and still have the "mount" flush to the rear of the panel.

Well it's in again, don't like the angle I needed to clear the gear shift but it allowed me to keep my Sirius radio.

I have mine where your radio is and before that I simply had it velcroed up to the right side of the panel below the steering column. Isn't that a bit far away? I like to use the manual from time to time...

I Originally had it where the Radio was but was unable to find a suitable place to put the radio. As for to far away I seem to be able to reach it ok, I just did a 600 mile trip and really had no reason to touch it with about an 8000 pound load.

I'm with mega on this one. Mine's an auto 4x so the Prodigy comes just over the top of the 4x shifter. Been several times over the years where I wanted all the trailer brake I could get or wanted just the trailer brake. Always mounted the controller where I could reach it easily.
