Looking to buy a 2008 4x4
Looking to buy a 2008 4x4
I was looking at the spec sheet on this 2008, 2500, Quad Cab, short bed, 4x4 and I noticed that I am paying $1024 for a "BLUETEC Diesel System Charge".
What exactly is this, and do I need it?
Also, what else should I be looking for? The price before tax and license is $40,733. This is a Laramie with leather, navagation, and tow package (Southern California)

The BLUETEC is the emmissions control equipment for the 6.7L diesel engine, making the engine 2010 emmissions compliant. You cannot get an '08 Dodge truck with a diesel without the BLUETEC. That's right, they are taking your fuel mileage away and making YOU pay THEM $1000 up front for that priviledge...brilliant, if you ask me...
They put the bluetec line item on the sticker so that the salesperson can explain the price increase to prospecting customers.
Dealerships felt that the new emissions equipment would cause a loss in sales due to price increases making the product less competitive against other brands. I had heard that this line item was Chrysler's attempt to point out that customers are getting more for their money, its not just a price increase. ...its one item I wish I could take off of the build sheet.
