I'm buying my first new truck! Now what?
I am picking up my brand new quad chassis 4x4 manual next week and am wondering about a few things. Being new at this, what would you look for when taking possession? What would you look for on a test drive? I'm a little spooked at the owner manual content. I am going to be bringing it 700 miles home (best deal wasn't close) on highways and see the manual says the 6.7 can be driven as normal right away. How should I be driving a brand new diesel? It has cruise, can I should set and enjoy?
Drive it like you stole it. As soon as you can put a load on the back, drive it like you stole it again. It helps seat the rings, IIRC. Congratulations on your new truck, post pictures when you get it home.Sorry, I'm trying to picture a guy who stole a truck and sets the cruise control...
IIRC no towing for the first 500 miles to let the geas in the rear end to mesh and I would vary the driving speed some from time to time. If you can drive those 700 miles home non stop except for fuel as it will help to start your engine break in.
Welcolme to the DTR! While using the search function I found this thread:

But, what do I need to specifically pay attention to when I take it for a drive before I sign the papers? I plan on taking a long drive around town and on the freeway.
Oh, one "little" thing: I decided to get the Hemi rather than the Cummins (for various reasons that I would be happy to share in another post). Now, I know this is a Cummins site, but it is also the best Dodge heavy-duty site that I know of, and much of the discussion here is applicable to a truck with either of the engines. To make up for it, I did get the G56 (thus the special order).
So, here are the specs: 2007 SLT QC 6.25ft, Hemi, manual 4x4, G56, 3.73 gears, LSD. About the only options I got were the clearance lights, adjustable pedals (for the wifey), side airbags, and premium seats.
Any help you guys can give will be much appreciated!

I printed it out & took it with me. Didn't use all the info, but was a big help just the same!

Wow thanks for the great info guys. I will likely look like a wiener but I printed out the check list and will try and hit all the points. I figure if I do then I can't feel as bad when something appears later on.
I noticed that one of the 'options' is the CA emissions which from what I gather is on most 6.7? They sure aren't making it easy on this engine with listing things like Bluetec and E-brake and maybe the CA setup as either options, or not at all but there. The CA setup isn't on the sticker but is on the invoice. Does it have the same power specs? Why do chassis cabs have less power ratings?
