Fuel mileage per tank
For the guy's getting the 500+ miles out of one tank, do you get out and push your truck's off stop light's and hills? I barely break 300 miles in one tank and I have had no issues with my dpf or computer glitches. I have about 12,000 miles (trouble free) and have a 3500 dually with 373's and a 6 speed auto.
I dont know how you drive or what but me and you have exactly same truck and I have more weight with addons done to my truck then you even with 100 gallons of deisel fuel and pulling 20,000 pounds. And if I stay behind a semi trailer on interstates, I can break 300 miles easily per 35 gallons of fuel. Either your getting crappy gas or your a race car driver or something wrong with your truck. Unloaded in city i can break 450 miles easilty and unloaded on hwy i can get 600 miles.
I think something might be wrong with your truck or like i said above paragragh. Good luck
I may need some driving lessons from you, I own a transportation company and have my share of miles behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler and can't get my truck to break 350 miles to a tank. My 06 dually would get me close to 500 miles but no way in hell can I do better in my new truck.
I feel lucky if I can break 300 miles per tank towing (<10K), and can get about 450 in mixed highway city driving unloaded. Those guys getting 540 miles out of a 34 gallon tank (sucking it bone dry) are evidently getting 15.9 mpg
I just topped off my tank from coming home on my first tow (last weekend) for a 2nd trip next weekend and it looked like I only needed 1/4 tank to top off the tank from the gauge. I spent $51 on 13.7 gallons @ 3.69 a gallon to top it off!

Yes, all the miles that I am talking about are basically sucking down the tank to bone dry.!!!!
With this bad MPG it would be nice to have one of those aux tanks so you can suck it dry and not worry about being stranded... I used to be able to do that with my gasser towing my toy hauler because I could pump gas from my toy hauler into my vehicle if I needed to! Not any more, so planning for fuel stops is even more important. I was hoping it would be the other way around with a diesel due to the FE they supposedly get and the large(ish) fuel tank they have.
when I had my 6.7 qc 2500 4x4 swb I could only get 400 miles to the tank and that was all highways miles on that tank driving 70 mph. I had put 8500 miles on the truck before I traded for a 5.9 cause I did not even see no more improvement. From day one with my 5.9 been getting 550 to 600 miles per tank. I know yall didn't want me to talk about my 5.9 I was just showing the difference in the truck.
Thanks guys. The whole fuel mileage is got me torn between the 6.7 and the new Silverado. 400-500 miles out of a 34 gallon tank vs. 400-500 miles out of a 26 gallon tank. The fuel prices are another factor with diesel being $3.40 and gas being $2.99. I'm having trouble deciding.

1. Gas engines take a crap past 100k.
Diesels take a crap past 500k.
2. Diesel prices are expensive this time a year and will be less later.
3. Your 30k silverado will be worth 8k at 120k miles.
Your Diesel will be worth 22k at 120k miles.
4. MPG is better when you tow with a diesel.
5. You will have alot less breakdowns over time with diesel
6. Diesel are faster
7. Diesel sound better, well, 6.7 is dang queit, but turbo sounds nice.
8. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, THERE IS NO COMPARISON!!!! GET REAL MAN
If I had it to do over I would not of bought another dodge. This is my third dodge diesel and I have never been over 15 mpg ever. I have several friends with duramaxes that are in the 18-19 mpg range. The best I have done so far is 14 on a longer trip. 07.5 mega 3.73 auto POS
This is my 4th ctd not real impressed with the mpg's on this one but very happy with the added power and stock compression brake. first tank of fuel 12.7 mpg's second was 13.6 third was 14.2 all hand figured not using the computer. My dad (keeping up with me just bought his) put bigger tires on it 285/70/17 hand figured his milage first tank 15.7. Might have to put larger tires on.

All joking aside, are the DuraMax guys you're quoting running the 2007.5 LMM's ?
DuraMax and the 6.4L Powerstrokes are all up in hp & torque but down on fuel economy. I have a friend with a 2008 F-350 Regular Cab w/Hillsboro Aluminum Flat and 5 speed auto and he's lucky to get 11-12 unloaded. I got a little over 12.5 hauling a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 on a 2007 Gatormade 16+2 from KY to Port Huron, MI and 14.9 mpg dragging the empty trailer back to KY.
Your fuel economy numbers are probably about average given the fact your truck has training wheels.
