New turbo at 3500 miles

Now a new turbo is needed after 3500miles...sure glad I'm not paying for it...what a shame..a great truck..great engine..EPA is making it un-useable for the average driver.
They want to make a more pollution free engine...but the engine needs to use more fuel and run harder..longer ..to run right...where is this helpping anything?
Anyone got any answers?

I sure wish I could strip the drivetrain down to the bare bones killer package the truck is...and to hell with the warrenty or EPA...Guess I need to find a 2006....Right?

I wish they would issue a recall and yank out the DPF on all the trucks. Even if you work the truck the DPF still cycles on all the time. I figure I spent an extra $50 last month burning off soot. I wish I could get my 06 back I fell for the $13,000 discount I got because it was on the lot for 2 years, now I know why they are having to offer such huge rebates.

RAD RAM I have 16k miles on my 07 6.7 auto with 410's.The truck get,s 12 mpg and 9.8 to 11 pulling a 2500 lb trailer. The truck has been back to the dealer 8 times for dpf related problems. The dealer told me to change my driving style to help the dpf regenerate. The dealer has no fix for the problem nor does Dodge. If your new truck will spend most of it's time on the interstate you will probably be fine, if not get ready foe the check engine lights and the overhead messages.

All of this data is hand calculated - I don't bother quoting what the overhead says. None of this is towing.

The first tank when new running highway miles unloaded was 17.8 mpg, driving speed varying between 60-65 mph. Commutes daily to and from work yields about 16 mpg (highway miles but some stops that really hurt mileage).

Now with 20,500 miles it has been getting 18.8-19.3 mpg highway and not much better for the commutes - a bit closer to 17 mpg. AX flash seemed to drop mileage slightly. Most fuel is BP (Amoco) or Cenex where I could find it.

Cool

as in my sig, i have a 08 mega single rear tires. 2x4.
my average is 16-21 depending on route taken. on level road at 65 mph i've seen 23 mpg. i keep my tires at 70-75 lbs.
scales have me and the truck at 7850 lbs unloaded.
i have just over 12,000 miles on the truck.
towing i'm getting 9-11 mpg with the trailer in my sig.

don't forget the rear axle ratio. i have 4.88 gears for towing on my 5500, 4x4 quad cab/chassis (no bed on back) 164 wheel base and in town, San Jose, CA with way to much traffic and traffic lites, no load or towing i get less then 11mpg. condidtions vary way to much to get a good comparrison. at my home in Deming, NM my mileage is much better in town, few vehicles and fewer stoplites. and my overhead console is 2-4mpg off. very little highway driving. 3000 miles on odometer

OK, my 2008 Mega 4x4 now has 10,000 miles. All is stock, I ordered the BFG upsized on-off road tires and I have a Leer canopy.

I've averaged 15.90 MPG to date. I'd say an average of 80% highway of which 80% has been pulling a flatbed trailer with two loaded rafts - say 3.5K lbs with trailer. I just pulled the trailer to Idaho and back for a raft trip, got 16.9 MPG on that trip. I did a 600 mile empty interstate trip 30-days ago and got 19.82 MPG. I almost always drive 55 to 60 MPH.

The good news is that I think there is a positive trend in MPG with a few more miles. Based on the mileage on recent longer trips, I think the average over the last several thousand miles would be maybe 1 MPG higher - but it could be summer fuel too.....

If anyone has a silver bullet, I'd sure appreciate any hints to increase the fuel mileage. I'll be doing a 3,000 trip in two weeks hauling the trailer with four people - a couple extra MPG would be nice.

I do love this truck. The power is great, the EB is great, brakes are OK. The back seat is epic!

Patience Grasshoppers! @ 15,000 miles I just completed a lengthy interstate trip and got 18.5 mpg @ 68 mph hand calculated. 2 months ago 17.5 mpg @ 72mph (13,000 miles). @ 6,000 miles, I was struggling to get 16mpg. Truck is all stock.

My 07.5 6.7L has been in the shop for "emissions" related repairs 13 times in 45,702 miles. I ***** and moan...but I have driven 31,447 miles since 1/01/08 and used 1899.05 gallons of fuel. Highway miles are about 65% of the total. The overall average for all driving is 16.559 MPG. I have not checked my previous vehicle ( F150 5.4L ), but if my recall is correct, it was slightly below the Cummins.

Hello all-New to the forum, have been thinking about trading in my 04 on an 08, a friend told me the 08's have so many problems that my 04 will be worth more in five yrs than the 08. Most of the posts here indicat thats probably not true. What is/are 68rfe, DPF? I can see I have been out of the loop for awhile.

68RFE is the 6 speed automatic transmission. The DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter, essentially it catches soot then when it gets close to plugged up it increases how much fuel goes into the engine and burns off the soot.

my mpg average for the last 500 miles about 25% highway and the rest city traffic in the SF bay area hand calculated at 12.4mpg these are miles no load or trailer.
talked to friends at dealership here and they said the 6.7 is generating a lot of complaints. knowing what I do now i would not buy one for at least another year maybe two.
