Ford Guy Moving to Dodge...UPDATE
My 05' F250 Powerstroke is now someone else's problem. Last night I pulled the trigger and took delivery of a new 2007 6.7 2500 Quad Cab 4X4 Inferno Red Big Horn edition. After seriously pondering the Mega Cab, I opted for the slightly more maneuverable shorter wheelbase truck for my 54 mile a day commute.
The Big Horn's interior is kind of sparse compared to my ex-Ford Lariat, but I just couldn't get myself to pony up for all the options or a Laramie. I would have loved to have them and I'll envy you guys that got them, but my payment is high enough as it is, thank you.
What I was glad to hear is the salesman told me the dealership is upgrade friendly when it comes to intakes, exhausts and some smaller lifts, but they tend to frown on programmers. Well, the 6.7 runs so good I plan on enjoying it the way it is for awhile.
Finally, I really appreciate all the guys who warned me to go with the tried and true 5.9, but the 6.7 with the 6 speed auto and engine brake was just too much temptation for me. I just hope the emissions-laden 6.7 doesn't turn out to be Cummins version of the 6.0 Powerstroke.

If you want leather like the laramie you can get aftermarket for around 700 per row for the good stuff which I am sure is less than the upgrade at dealer. Also I wouldent let one of those idiots at the dealership touch your truck!!!
Flattman, sounds like a nice truck and I've got the SLT package as well and don't need all the bells and whisles. But as JD said there are places to have the seats covered in leather and it's probably a higher quality leather then what the manf. use. Good luck

I have to admit, I think it is better quality leather than what comes in the Laramie trucks and it is warrantied the same too
This is what I did with my truck as well. Didn't want to pay for the Laramie package, but wanted leather. Dealer put custom two tone leather in my Mega for $900 front and back.

Also, can someone tell me the cutoff years for the models? For instance, would the '07 tail lights swap out with the '06 model? Are the frames different between an '06 and an '07 (would a hitch that fits an '06 fit an '07 without modification)? When did the wheel lug pattern change?
Finally, does using the exhaust brake in daily, non-towing situations hurt the engine? Because it would surely help save brakes. I need to research the brake so I know how it works.
TIA

Yep,
If I had it to do again I would have bought the cloth seats and upgraded to aftermarket leather. The leather that comes with the Laramie seems to be thin, and stains easily. I have seen the Katzman (sp) kits and they look great. Congrats on the new Dodge. I tell you that 6.0 Powerstroke was a dog.

I never knew just how much of a dog that was until I drove the Cummins. That's what sealed the deal so fast; it was really a no brainer. And the new six speed auto trans in the Dodge where you can downshift and upshift "manually" is fantastic. The Ford's torque shift didn't allow that and I always thought that was odd. Sure, you could downshift to third gear, but that's the gear you'd start out with as well. Very lame. Good if you were on ice I guess, but not a lot of that here in AZ.
My new 6.7 might not get better gas mileage than the 6.0, but I can already tell I'm going to get a lot more bang for the buck for what I think will turn out to be the same mileage figures.

Buddy of mine just toasted his motor in his 05' 6.0. Fortunately I was convoying with him and helped out alot by transfering his horses and coming back for his trailer. Talked with him today and he still just can't see the light. I did, no more convoying with him. That was misserable and I don't even own one.
Oh yeah, his truck only had 46,000 miles on it.

How does he continue to justify the problems? For some, it just takes longer than others because they're so loyal.
They say the best days in a boat owner's life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it. The same can be said for the 6.0. It is so hard to believe that an engine that covered a 4-5 year span never got straightened out.
What's sad is that I really liked Fords. But the 6.0 experience caused me not to even test drive or consider their new model at any price. I know my truck is new right now, but I can't see myself going back to them, maybe ever...and I don't think I'm the only one with that opinion.
