I had it happen to me in TOW HAUL. I was pulling up to a light pulling a trailer and pushed a little harder on the brakes and it kicked on. really helped out in that situation.

In 30 some years driving lots of different trucks, I never had a Jake or exhaust brake malfunction. Back to the dealer, you must have a short somewhere.

It happens to me pretty often. Remember the exhaust brake is not only there to slow you down but it also plays a big role in the warm up of the truck. It happens to me almost every morning when its cold, and once the truck has hit 200 degrees it usually goes away. My dealer said it was normal operation

My truck will down shift in tow haul no eb with the ice and snow here that could be a bad thing. If the roads are bad I don't use tow haul.

Is your eb kickin on, or are you hearing the egr valve open and close? They sound similar. My egr will open when I stop sometimes. It sounds like the eb, but the turbo won't whine. If it is cold and the truck is idling the eb will come on to warm it up faster.

My trucks eb doesn't come on when it's cold unless I turn it on. Is something to do with the regen.
When my exhaust brake seems to come on by it's self it's always below 1000rpm and it doesn't matter if the truck is at opperating temp. or not.

the eb comes on when i take my foot off the gas pedal and if i push the gas pedal back down it goes off just like it does when the button on the dash is pushed in somedays it does not do it and then other times it is everytime i guess i will be taking it to the dealer after the first of the year to see what they have to say about it.I have heard the egr valve open when the truck is sitting in the drive idleing but when i think the eb kicks in it will slow the truck down would the egr valve do this

I'm still trying to determin if there is a problem or just the regen mode makeing it do it.
Mine only comes on under 1000rpms when it does this. If I put it it park it seems to stop doing it untill I take it out of park again.
