EGR Valve is Trashed

Just had the truck in this AM for more codes and the tech told me the EGR is toast and needs to be replaced. However, he stated that parts are an issue for these new trucks...yup, they didn't have one in stock. They said maybe next week.

First two they put on mine they robbed off of new trucks. This was before all the flashes and cleaning came about. Prolly last June or July. Was it not running when you came in? or did they say not drive it?

fflarry, do you think the power pup did this? I ask because I got a deal on one last week and was going to install it on my C&C and for 400 bucks shipped, could not pass it up. I am running a mp-8 on my 2500 and no scum on it at all just a small amount of carbon. You say its toast, does this mean it was plugged with carbon?

No they just said drive it and we'll call you when the part is here.

I haven't run the Power Pup for the last 10,000 miles because I don't like the excessive timing noise, so I don't think the PP had anything to do with it. The stock power is so much better than my Puke Stroke, that I'm happy driving it stock.

I am surprise they told you to drive it, on the cummins side of the engine business, if there is any EGR, VGTurbo, or aftertreatment faults , the active regenerations will be disabled until the fault is fix. that is a EPA mandate. there has been no issue with the EGR valve itself, but the motor that operates the valve basically a 60 step motor has seen a few issues, right now if the motor is bad the whole valve must be replaced. So if you run into a plugged DPF, now we know why.

The service tech said to drive it and they will call me when the new one is in. I would hope the guy knew what he was talking about. I'm not sure if it was plugged with carbon, I didn't see it, but was told by the tech it was faulty and need replaced.
