Transfer case and rear end are exactly the same on a 2008.

2nd Gens the transfer case was the same. The rear axles(Dana) had some differences and varied from year models. Oh and 4.10 gears PULL more weight easier then 3.73s.Theres a REASON 4.10s are a option.NO fooling.

Hounddog:

I agree 4.10's will pull heavy better. I just think with the new 6 speed selectable auto tranny and these high torque CTD's this advantage is more limited within the say below 13000 lb weight category. However, as you go above 13000 lbs and past 16000 lbs, as some purport to do. I'd say that's where the 4.10's make a difference as you indicate.

I guess really the only way to tell is drive two identical trucks side by side heavy which I haven't done with the 4.10's and the 3.73's.

I just made the gear swap about 2-weeks ago,from 373 to 4;10'S.
The difference for me is hwy speeds, I was able to cruise around 77 mph and stay under 2k(RPM)

Now with the 4:10's I can cruise right at 70 and stay under the 2K.

Made a big difference pulling my 14,000 toy hauler up a twisty incline.

Up here in BC we have a luxury tax on vehicles. My 3500 (and everybody else's around here) does not qualify as a luxury vehicle (high GVW), however 2500's do. The tax is something like 17% on the MSRP if you are over I think 43000. Can't dredge up the numbers right now. But there were many good reasons for me to get the 1 ton, none were mechanical.

After some checking, our threshold for charging luxury tax now stands at 55000$. You would be paying 3% luxury tax, 5% Goods and Services Tax, and 7% Provincial Sales Tax. So buying the higher GVW vehicle you'd save $1650.

I guess what I was thinking, and thinking may be a problem for me, with the six speed you would just manually go to 5th.

I'd guess right now I'm pretty close to the same value at 77 mph - just under 2000 rpm with the 6 speed tranny.

At 70 mph - I'd probably use 5th gear and get the same result. - just under 2000 rpm. So the 6 speed gives you some more flexibility.

However, I wonder what the 5.9 with a 48rfe in first gear tach's at 10 mph? Then we could compare the 6 speed in first at the same mph.

Well if you have to have 4.10 gears and you can only find the 3.73s. My brother has an 06 with standard trans and 4.10s and he really want's to change to 3.73s. So I KNOW he will be willing to swap with you at a moments notice. He lives in the Kansas area but drives all over the US so could work out the contact stuff too. Just an FYI.
He says the truck will pull tree stumps but forget going any faster than 55 on the highway or your fuel economy goes in the toilet.

I have an 08 with 4.10, always have a trailer on the back, perfect combo, especially on the hills, 3.73 is ok in florida but go across country once and you will love the 4.10. With the 6 speed auto, the 4.10 is king ecxept for grocery getters, I also had an 06 with chips etc, no comparison, do not need to chip this one, can't keep rear tires on it and i am an old guy who does not hot rod (except fORDS on a grade), if you don't tow buy a honda.

2006 G-56 manual transmission only came with 3.73s... not 4.10s. 4.10s were options only with the autos.
