Could this be the beginning of the end for me??? (Codes)
Could this be the beginning of the end for me??? (Codes)
First off, let me say that I love this truck! It runs great, the trans works perfectly, and it looks great. I bought a 6.7 even though the 07 owners were still having issues because it seemed the 08s were not really having problems. I actually was looking for a used Laramie Mega 5.9 but there were just none to be found at the time. I put 7700 troublefree miles on this truck and it has been a pleasure to drive. A couple days ago I got in the truck to come home from work and the CEL came on. There were no codes and it went off the next day. I figured it was just a glitch and didn't worry about it. Now today on the way home I get another CEL. This time it's the P2262(Turbo needs cleaning or replacement) code and the P0137 (O2 sensor)codes.
Since I bought it out of state I don't have the luxury of a free loaner vehicle so if I put it in the shop I will probably have to rent a vehicle to drive until it's fixed. I know things go wrong sometimes and I'm not ready to give up on this truck just yet but if this is just a preview of things to come then I can say with 100% confidence that this will be my last diesel pickup truck. I have had several trucks since joining this board and I know it's kind of a joke that I change so often but I demand that I be happy when I shell this kind of $$$ out for a vehicle and if I am not happy then I get rid of it. My turbo should not be so dirty after just 7700 miles that it throws a code.
Anyways, the truck still runs fine so I may just keep driving it until it stops and then get it to the shop. Has anybody else done this with these codes and not have their truck break down? Or am I just gonna breakdown eventually?

I had the P2262 problem after three months and 3000 miles. I took it to the dealer for warranty repair (I have the luxury of a spare vehicle). They replaced the turbo which was over nighted and I had it back in three days. This was last July. I'm now at 14000 miles and have had no further issues other than keeping up with the new flash releases and the recall.
If I were you, I'd bite the bullet and take it in. Perhaps you can have the dealer pre-order the parts so that you only have to leave it one day. I think the first time they will only clean the turbo though.

Several things come to mind.....have you had all the recalls done? G30 is a flash update and replacement of the o2 sensors. It sounds as if there are several flash updates to eliminate that problem. I would make an appt with the nearest dealer ( no better time than now to start a relationship!) and see if they will just do a diag/flash update and if anything more than that is needed, you can schedule it for a later date. Start there, but I don't think it is anything major.
There I was, trying to come up with a way to put a little joy in your life and look what happens. I know that my sister store has put a couple in already. Chrysler has a weekly demand of close to 200 a week. When you look to check stock on it, you see a brief note recommending that all TSB's be performed first before replacement is done. Then the tech is to call engineering directly. These steps are in ref to the P2262 you got. On another note, my F-N-Law whom I finally convinced to come over to the dark side, got his first CEL at less than 2000 miles. The APP had dropped out. Best part is that he had no idea what the light was in his dash. I cleared it and hasn't been back yet. Seeing that this looks to be a widespread issue, I'd expect some others to chime in with their experiences.
I do have a new great Cummins tech. So good, that I broke up with my other one from over 10 years. If it comes down to convienence and trusting a dealer, then maybe I have a goofy idea? Think you can handle driving a stick 5.9 white dually? It only has a Smarty and an OFE.......

The truck is only 4 months old so it should have had all the latest flashes/recalls done when I got it. I haven't noticed any new flashes since getting my truck but I could definitely be wrong.
Anyways, I guess I'll call the dealer and see what they say. I was just pretty bummed because most guys that have this issue see it more than once. Some guys had no problems and once they get this code it just became a constant companion. I don't really care about the CEL as long as the truck keeps running right.....
I do plan on running the crap out of it in 4th gear with the EB on and in tow/haul tomorrow morning. Maybe that will clean things up a bit....

Zilla,
I had the same problem at 11,200 miles. CEL came on and went away after
about 6 or so starts. Left it with the dealer for a weak (I had to be out of
town anyway). Dealer called and said that a turbo cleaning was needed.
The turbo was drilled, cleaned and the oil/filter were changed. I picked the
truck up last Monday and today the CEL came on again. Will see the
dealer Monday. It seems they can fix the result but not the cause of the
problem. The Service Manager tried to explain it as a software problem and
not a mechanical one.
The overhead fuel mileage is dropping like a rock.

I drove it hard on the way to work this morning and when I started the truck this afternoon the CEL was gone. I still put her in "4" and in tow/haul with the EB on for my trip home from work. RPMs stayed at around 2300 for the whole trip except for a 5 mile stretch where I was right at 2500rpms. Maybe that will keep the code away if I do it once a week like that. Probably not but we'll see. I really like this truck and I just hope it doesn't start having these issues all the time..
Anyways, I'm code and CEL free for now....

Yeah. I really liked that truck but that daggone transmission just wouldn't work right no matter what I did. It "learned" my driving habits which included lots of traffic, and would shift through the gears way too quickly under normal driving conditions. If not for the trans i would probably still have it today. Not to mention how much extra $$$ I would have in the bank.....
