my wifes pickup is has a little surge to it i checked the codes and found po514 which is batterytemperaturesensor performance / rationality ok my question is alot of the codes on the dtr page have rationality on them what is rationality thanks

Just means that the info the ecm was seeing from one or more sensors wasn't making sense compared to what the ecm was told to expect to see. A lot of the updates, or flashes, change what the ecm is supposed to look for.

yours in particular is an old problem originally from the 2006 MY.

The ecm compares battery temperature reading to the ambient air temperature reading in the airfilter box. It does the rationality as a part of the OBDII compliance requirements. It only does it if the ecm has been off for more than 6 hours. If the comparison readings at keyon are more than 6 degrees apart, OBDII requirments state that the CEL must be illuminated.

OBDII requirements are there to insure that your emissions systems are still functioning correctly over the entire usefull life of the vehicle (I believe its 120,000 miles, but not certain).
