I ran a search on this forum...didn't see any other similar threads.

I'm noticing that I get a chirping noise when I quickly lift off of the accelerator pedal, with the engine brake turned on, in a situation where the engine will aggressively decelerate...like at a higher rpm. Could this be from the fan belt? I've only been hearing this recently...now that its warm enough to be driving around with my windows open. It's just one short/quick chirp, and then the noise is gone. I don't seem to hear this noise if I lift off the pedal slowly...all other conditions being th same. The truck has 44,000+ miles on its original fan belt.

yep, it's the belt. No big deal. If you want to eliminate that noise plus get rid of the same "chirp" when you shut it off, use a Gatorback belt next time. The don't chirp like the original equipment ones do... probably because of the design, "little cuts in the back side"

 

Thanks! That's what I figured it was...just wasn't sure. And if it was the belt, I wasn't sure if this was an issue that required immediate attention. It sounds like it isn't. I'll look for a Gatorback belt, and will swap it out...saving the stock one for emergency use.
