A container that is resistant to diesel placed sitting on top the front differential is in the perfect spot to catch the fuel.
The tubing appears to be about a 3/8 diameter.
Since this thread originally started I again changed my filter. Literally took a chain style filter wrench to get it off and dern near broke it into three pieces. I think it tightened itself over time....
Talk about an exercise in patience.
Now me being me, and always looking for better whatever, I decided to add a secondary fuel filter to the mix. I went with a kit from Glacier diesel that uses a 2 micron Fleetguard filter. Im very impressed with the kit. It also included a big line kit which replaces all the factory line from the factory filter to the CP3. I really like the idea of the factory filter now just being a prefilter and then it getting a second pass through a real quality filter.
Should anyone be interested I could throw up a few pics.
Im also considering going with some additional hardware from Glacier that includes a frame mounted 10 micron fuel/water separator and a bypass kit for the factory filter. Cheaper filters, better filtration, and much easier access. Win win win in my book.

So my toss up is whether to buy all of this stuff now, and hope it will work on my 4th gen or just wait it out. I know the MK2 kit will, and see no reason why the rest wouldnt.
When the new one comes along Ill just pull it all off and throw it on the new rig. Its just gonna get a few deletes and the necessaries (filtration, intake etc)
(%&(*$&($&%. The service I just did was a *(&^(*&^ mess.
Got everything gathered up...put the hose on the drain valve...nice snug fit....and opened it up. Of course, the hose fell off just as the valve opened and diesel went everywhere. Luckily I was working through the wheel well so I didn't get a bath. Filter came off pretty easily. A half inch ratchet with a short extension did the trick. Going back was easy of course.
Then....and here is the REAL mess....I did an oil change. Draining was a piece of cake since I put a Fumoto valve on last oil change. Oil filter didn't want to move...a bit odd since I didn't white knuckle it on the last time....but I got it. No spillage. Filled the new filter and installed it. Again no spillage. Closed the Fumoto and refilled. Primed the fuel system and busted her off. Heard what sounded like a fart so I shut her off immediately.
Engine oil EVERYWHERE. I did NOT do what I KNOW to do. Been changing oil since I was a kid on the farm from 1970 on and neglected to make sure the old gasket came off with the old filter. &$&%*$(#)#*(&%^%$#. Makes a fella feel pretty stupid when you get in a hurry and forget to do what you KNOW to do. Hate to confess something that stupid but if it helps somebody else to remember it guess it's worth it.
