Biodeisel

So, am I understanding things correctly?? The 6.7 can't use biodeisel?? Or is that not the case. If so, is anyone currently using it in their rig?? Lastly, is anyone making it themselves??

Thanks!!

From what I hear , the high pressure of the common rail fuel systems , causes a change in the bio [ polymerization ] not good for the fuel & crank case oil , but thats for high % of bio , so far it sounds like the high limit is 15-20% bio .
I have been using commercially made for 3-4 yrs. , studying it a lot , getting set up to make it , equipment , chemicals and sources of waste vegi oil , up to about 200 gals so far .

Biodiese and the 6.7L

Many of the 6.7Ls come with biodiesel from the factory. I have ran biodiesel in mine and it works just fine but I am not running over the fleet amount. Older trucks can have problems with filters and hoses.

My mechanic said there is an additional filter that is recommended and a computer change if you are going to consistently run B20.

Yes, they can run on it. However, Cummins only warranties 5% on personal use vehicles and up to 20% on fleet as a recommendation. The truck has the correct hoses, filters and system to handlle biodiesel. My guess is they warranty a small % since there is no control over what people will home brew and the commercial standards still have not been set across the US with the exception of smaller %s of bio. Cummins is working on that however which is more standards and legislation than changes to the powerplant.

there are people all over the net running higher percentages of biodiesel in the 6.7 from what I have read and they have put quite a few miles on them.

Thanks guys... That's some good info... With diesel prices getting so high, make a guy wonder if they shouldn't start looking into the alternatives!! However, there is no way I am giving up my Cummins!!

My owners manual says Its safe to run B10, so I would think that anything B10 or less should not affect the warranty as the manual says its safe to run it.
