Auto or 6spd
Auto or 6spd
I am looking at three trucks:
all 07's (rebate etc) all 2WD all quad cabs
I recently graduated and have landed a very lucrative job (well into six figures)
I am a manual loyalist. Currently I have a 2000 PSD 3/4 ton LB 6spd 2WD
That being said to spend the money on a brand new truck I want leather
My dealer didnt have a laramie 6spd on the lot
he did a 400 mi radius search and turned up nothing as well.
That being said he does have three nice trucks on his lot
I am a PRCA member and get special pricing as well (1% below factory invoice)
Either:
silver, SLT 6spd
big horn edition
6disc infiinty sound
power pedels
XM
Jake
40/20/40 seat
Power Sliding rear window
Overhead display
OR:
White Laramie Auto (same goodies pretty much)
Or:
Silver Laramie Auto:
heated seats, SUNROOF, Premium sound, GPS nav, Chrome running boards
So what say you guys?
I just dont like the Idea of an auto pulling horses all the time.
I test drove the manual but not the auto and on the manual I forgot to turn the jake on but my dealer let me drive it alone for like an hour (truck had 14 mi on it had like 64 when I got back lol)

Be sure to test drive the 6 speed auto. It is sweet. I grew up driving a Jeep with manual transmission, so I'm comfortable with a stick. I didn't like the Dodge manual at all. I'm sold on the 6 speed auto with EB.
I only like manuals myself, but I've heard the new autos are nice. I have always had manuals after my first auto broke and swear I will never go back, but I would definately get the power leather seats. I settled for the Big Horn with the cloth seats and they suck! No lumbar support at all. I will probably look into repalcing front seats after I mod the engine. I suppose aftermarket seats would be better than any factory seat ever made. I say drive 'em all make sure you sit in it comfortably and then choose. My trailer weighs right at 9000 lbs all loaded up and I don't have to downshift unless I'm pulling a mountain so shifting is kept to a minimum.
No Way In Hell
Would I go back to a manual. I towed heavy today and this thing just amazed the stuffing out of me. Loaded I can pull out onto the highway and take off just like I was empty, then stop with out doing anything but putting my foot on the brake (not mashing it, just slight pressure). In my 01 manual I had to wait for the highway to clear off, then go through the gears shifting 1-2 half way through the turn, then 2-3 as soon as I got straight, then kick the e-brake on (I had Jacobs on the 2001 for a long time then sold it), start kicking and shifting and hope I did it right to get slowed down. It is like this auto knows what I want and just does it. My dad rode with me today pulling my 29' three axle hauling his suburban and was just amazed how effortless it was, both stopping and starting (he has 02 5speed cummins). I am sorry buy you are just CRAZY to buy a new manual these days. I have been a Cummins/Manual guy for 14 trucks since 1997, and this blows them all out of the water. I am not a salesman, I don't get paid by Dodge, but this is truck is far and away a better tow machine (in the pickup world), than can be built or bought with any amount of factory or currently avaliable aftermarket parts, in any another package (ford, chevy, or dodge). I would put manual vs. auto 6.7L debate in the same class as automatic vs. column shift comparison (yea I had a couple of the "three on the tree" trucks and they all sucked), not even the same school in my book.

i am all for the manual. i have owned manuals in all of my vehicles. less to go wrong with them, and if something does, cheaper to fix usually. not to mention that when i am towing, i really don't need or want a computer to decide when and where i want the power. the manual trans and engine brake on the 6.7 is the absolute best combo in my opinion.
