6.7 silencer ring

Anybody remove the silencer ring off of a 6.7 yet. I was looking at a friends turbo and it looks like there is a pin holding it in, not a snap ring like a 5.9. He wants to get some turbo noise going...

You do not want to remove it on these units. It is a whole different critter and will void the warranty on your turbo. It is glued in and part of the variable vane system.

Not so much worried about the warranty, the truck has 140k on it.

I myself have not looked at the unit in the dodge trucks yet but as said it probably is part of the whole system. The turbo in those trucks has moving vanes in the turbo to eliminate the turbo lag. so it would be a bad idea

It is very difficult to get off. It also has a function of directing airflow on the 6.7 turbos and it's not recommended to remove it. Instead, put a CAI on the truck. He will get the whistle he wants. All I did was gut the intake tube and put an AFE drop-in on mine and it's much louder than before....
