6.7 high altitude problems?

I'm looking to get a 2500 or 3500 QC 4X4 when I return from the sandbox next June.

I've had lots of time to research and read reviews from many sources, (edmunds, msn, car.com etc.). The good news is that the vast majority of 6.7 owners or very happy with the truck and engine. Of course there are some problems.

One problem that has come up a couple of times is engine trouble at fairly high altitude, (clogged filters, similar to what we've seen here, but maybe a little more so). These have come from Colorado, Utah and other high country states.

This is of concern to me becaue my house is at an altitude of 8017 ft and the area where I'll be driving is 6-9500 ft.

Any of you mountain folks having, or have heard of such problems?

Well being from south central Texas I'm not a mountain folk but I traveled though NM, CO, WY, and Montana this June with my 11K 5th wheel and the truck was amazing without any problems at all. And believe me or not the truck got better mileage in Colorado than it did in the flat lands of northern Texas. I was traveling I25 which is a good highway with only 1 pass in Raton NM but the mileage was between 11-12 towing. So far I've got over 16K miles and the trucks been great and tows better than my 04.5 Cummins with the 6 speed and EB.

Tabbing I live a little north of you, LPD, and have driven my 6.7 over some 11,000 ft. passes and had no problem

I live at 7,625 ft elevation. The majority of my driving, towing and running empty, is through the mountains of Colorado and Utah. The truck runs great, makes excellent power going over 11K to 12K passes, exhaust brake is outstanding.

The dealer flashed my truck with the newest TSB before they delivered it to me in late June. I had 1 CEL since new which was a P0245. That was a false EGR alarm which was fixed by adding the AU flash. No problems since then, and I have not heard of anyone having more DPF problems because of altitude than anyone else. Some people even say they run better at altitude, I can't confirm that since I'm always at altitude

Trailridge road high enough for you? Makes 9000 feet seem like the flat lands

I travel Winter Park every other weekend which is about 9000 and the truck does just fine. The exhaust brake actually gets used on the passes.

You should not have any trouble.
