I have an 2007.5 6.7 2500 4x4 6spd man., I have a few things done to it like afe stage 2 cold air intake, an edge juice with attitude, and a 5" turbo back dpf delete system. I have been running this setup for a while, I have just recently noticed that when I am in town driving everytime I take off the enging temp. wants to climb up to around 200deg. and if I am on the highway and get on it a little bit it does the same thing, and sometimes it will actually go up to 202-203deg. has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it?
i've been looking for a 205'f thermostat as diesels run better between 200-210'f. so i guess your truck is just running perfect. if it climbs over 215-220'f unloaded it needs the cooling system, thermostat checked out.
If you have accurate gauges, you will see temperature movement. It has to because when more fuel is burnt, it creates heat. With my Insight, I can see the temp move from 189 to 194. I can actually see the temp gauge on the dash slightly move as well. IMO, that is a good thing, I do not want dummy gauges like ford has (we all know the oil pressure gauges on dodge are dummy ones, but that is another story). I drove fords for company trucks and you can tell the truck was running cold, yet, the gauge read "normal" and sat in the exact same spot as when it was 100 out sitting traffic and would only move if you had it into the boards for a VERY long hill.
Can you hear your fan cut in? Does the temp still climb with the fan running or does it cycle up and down within a range? Unless it starts to climb continuously past 210-215F with the fan running just let it work away it is good for your carbon build up. If it won't cycle properly reduce speed until you can remain at high RPM in a lower gear with less throttle pressure which will allow the engine fan to draw maximum air through the rad and generate less heat. DO NOT stop and shut off engine unless you have to. Come to a safe stop turn heater on high heat,fan and run engine at 2000+ RPM with fan engaged to keep drawing air through rad. When you shut engines down hot and stop the coolant circulating you run the risk of warping the one piece head. With your mods you are generating substantially more cylinder heat and it has to go somewhere, make sure the rad is not plugged.
