4 wheel drive

I put my truck in 4 wheel drive the other day and the indicator light telling you if in 4 high and 4 low was flashing. What does this mean. Should i be worried. I havent had a chance to put in back in 4 wheel since all the rain has stoped. If you all have any ideas let me know.

Usually if it's flashing it means that it's trying to go into 4WD but hasnt yet engaged.

Explained in your owner's manual, along with a lot of other stuff. 4-hi is easy, 4-lo is different. Good luck.

Angry My 4 wheel low dash light continues to blink

I can shift my truck into 4 wheel hi and note that the indicator flashes initially then when engaged stays lite as it is suppose too. However when I select 4 wheel low the light continues to blink and does not stop blinking indicating the low 4 wheel drive is not engaged? What should I be looking at to correct the 4 wheel low indication? Any help?

You have to be completely stopped with clutch depressed or in neutral or park if automatic to go into low range. You can go to Hi 4wd or 2wd at any speed.

Angry RTillery thanxs for the reply

I have a automatic tranny and I have tried what you have suggested many times and the indicator still blinks indicating that the Low will not engage?

I know sometimes if you roll back gently in reverse on older vehicles the 4x4 will engage easier. Not sure about these trucks though.

if you can try it on a slight incline and let it try to engage 4 low while rolling backwards at a very slow speed in neutral, its been known to help from time to time

at this time it seems like a trip to the shop is required, if it goes into 4 hi then it should in theory go into 4 low.
My Toyota tundra did something similar with just the light flashing and no 4 wheel drive at all and it was a burnt out actuator on the transfer case

Is the truck engaging into 4 High or 4Low? If it is engaging then your indicator light switch is going out. Mine in my 2006 did that and I replaced the switch which is located on the transfer case.
