2008 vs 2004.5

I am seriously considering trading our very dependable, highly maintained 2004.5 for a nice 2008 with low miles...

Except for some drive line issues and a few ball joints/universal joints the 2004.5 AUTO that has about 80,000 miles on it has been trouble free.

I really need an exhaust brake, one of the main reasons for buying the 2008.

I have read of problems with soot build up and other emission/turbo caused problems on the newer 6.7 trucks.

Do you think I would be going from almost trouble free on the old 5.9 to a problem truck on the 6.7 (2008).

Are there some other areas of concern I should look for on the 2008.

Did they have most of the kinks flashed out by 2008?

I do a lot of short trips, 20 miles or so...

Thanks

Save your money. Buy an aftermarket e-brake if you must have that functionality.

Look at my sig, I've been there. The only thing better in the 2008 (aside from the e-brake) is the transmission. If I could get a mega cab dually with a 5.9 AND the six speed auto that is what I'd be driving.

Unless youre going to delete it and program it, you may want to stick with what you have, espcially if its yours and not yours and the banks.

The 08's is a good year for 3rd gen 6.7's, no real issues like the 07.5, and bigger intercooler than the '09's, but Id still sleep better at night with it deleted.

i traded my 01 5.9 on on a 08 6.7 almost a year ago the only issue i had was i had to take it in to get the latest flash about a month after buying it because i was getting a code for no boost mechanical. since the flash it runs great i drive it almost daily to work its all stock regens are about a month month and half or so. less often when i pull it for awhile on highway i do have a 94 powerstroke that i use more when idle time is necessary wintertime farm work that time of stuff but i love the o8 and its bone stock

I also say get an E-Brake for your 2004.5.
I love my 08 but wish I would have kept the 04.5 and put an exhaust brake on it.
