2008 Engine Issue? Valves?

This is a new issue. Any of you guys have this one?
I do have 38's on my truck and also put the edge juice thingy on. Under high acceleration, especially when I put the edge on 4 or higher, it seems to make a bad lifter or valve noise. Olmost like there is too much pressure or its releasing pressure or exhaust etc.? It seems to be coming from the left side, and only under full throttle.
Since this is my first diesel, I kind of relate this to also a gas engine under high acceleration, you can hear the lifters or valves.
The difference on my dodge 6.7 is that it is either on or off type of noise. And its pretty loud. Once I start to back off on the throttle the noise just stops.

I would assume that these new 6.7's are built well enough to handle my edge/juice device. My truck only has 5000 miles on it.

could it be a combination of large tires and too much power? Only other thing that I have done to the truck is change the air intake.

Someone? Any ideas?
Yes, im going to take it in to the dealer but thought I would ask to see if anyone has any thoughts on this before I do take it in and if anyone thinks the dealer would have issues with the power module and large tires in relation to this.

The dealer is going to have issues with the power module.

The truck does it even when I turn the power module off. Just not as much.

I get the same thing from my truck with water/meth on. If I pin it and it does it I let off and pin it again and most of the time that works and it goes away. I have not been worried yet about it because it hasnt caused any problems that I know of. But I think it is something to do with the egr system

Is there such thing as a wastegate on the turbo or exhaust system that releases pressure at a certain point? Or a pressure relief valve? It sounds terrible and I can feel the loss of power when it happens.

This is no wastegate on these turbos. They are a Variable Geometry turbo. ZThe clearence inside the turbo does the pressure reducing for you and it is all computer controlled.

Sounds like timing knock to me... take the Edge off before you lose a head gasket.

Ok, well unfortunately I have to leave town for a bit until the 22nd. I will have time then to take it in and find out for ya guys. I would assume that the motor was built to hold up to that. I hear about all these guys putting on twin turbo's and bigger injectors etc on the 5.9's. I would have no reason to think that the new 6.7 would be any less beefy. I love my 6.7 and it really scoots with the edge module on higher settings. The transmission seems really strong too! KMK, so could you tell me a bit more about the crank pressure and what that valve does? Again, the sound seems to be coming from the lower left side of the engine.

Mine sounds the same when I turn it all the way up and go WOT. I don't do that if I can help it though.
Stay away from the Dealer if you care about your warranty at all with the EDGE on your truck. You will be blacklisted and sent down the road.

I couldn't agree more. I've been through this before with my 04.5 I didn't know what timing knock was until it cost me a head gasket. Then later on down the road I found that I had a defective injector that was causing the timing knock, but not before it cost me a shortblock! The sound described in the 6.7 in this thread is identical to what mine did. It's like someone is doing a drumroll on the floorpan under the gas pedal... Don't let it do that! You're going to tear your truck up!

Yes, thats what it sounds like. Drumroll is a great way to put it. White Sport, did yours make the sound under heavy acceleration? I will send it to the dealer immediately as soon as I figure out how to remove the Edge box from the truck.
Thanks guys for all your help and info. Love this site!

Thank you for being a voice of reason. What is the engine designed for? Read the engine plate - and it will tell you. This is true regardless if it's a 6.7L, or any of the 5.9L varients. Please bear in mind this is a rating for 24/7 constant operation at this power rating, for the lifespan of the engine. It is NOT the "peak" bhp and torque numbers used with standard automotive engines. Change that with a programmer, fuel plate, injectors, etc and you are leagally on your own to fund future repairs to the engine and associated driveline components.

Here is another question for ya that may be related to this problem. How can you tell if you have a bad or faulty injector? Sometimes when I start the truck it takes a lot longer to start than I would assume normal. Could that also be a sign of a bad injector that causes extra cranks to start the motor in effect also giving me timing knock?

Mine only did it under heavy acceleration and only when the timing was beyond stock. I'd bet money that you have a bad injector if not more than one. It will cause hard starting and white smoke on startup as well.
