I wouldn't discount the sell off of the Chrysler Group. I too think in the end DCX will keep them, but this talk of a buyout with Blackstone equity and Magna International as minority partner has some merit and really would not be bad, Chrysler would be back in North American hands once again.

Sure did make the stock price go up though.

Dieter opens his mouth, starts a rumor, and the net worth of the company increases $10 billion dollars.

In addition, having this "rumor" only gives DCX more leverage in the upcoming UAW renegotiation. The UAW will be much more likely to give some more concessions when they know the whole company is on the "block".

Smart man that Dieter.

Speaking of "smart". That company has never (ever) made a profit, but you don't hear about DCX selling them.

Reason, the stock price wouldn't go up if he started a rumor about selling "Smart".

well i prefer to stick to cummins. unless they throw in the same mb diesel that some of my school buses have that would be sweet! hey mnmlod how did u get a fire truck? my area just spent $397,000 on a new one! JUST ONE!
also a comment on the sprinter: they get great milage but they are low powered (never drivin one but 154 horse and 250lb ft seems a little low for a large van.)

How 'bout this. Start a thread about putting the MB engine in the Dodge conversion. I mean really, there isnt a single Ford board on line that doesnt have that discussion or links to do the Cummins conversion. Even conversions for Hummers and a whole host of GM/Cummins conversion. But nothing for the Dodge, so why not a MB??

There seem to be a few around on every Dodge board who would rather drive a Mercedes pickup. I think I will build up a kit for that conversion, bet I could make a mint!

Enough said.

I would think that's more than enough for urban package delivery, mobile truck repair, etc.

The Cummins will be around for plenty of time. Chrysler did a survey a while ago stating that most of its buyers purchase the Ram because of the Cummins. Daimler just has no clue what Chrysler is all about, and they know nothing of the heritage. They just love to throw their claimed-to-be superior engines an components in Freightliners and Chryslers because it saves them from having to source out from other companies. Plus companies like Freightliner have to pay royalities to Daimler for use of their parts bin (i.e. engines)!!

MB in dodge?? Maybe beyond 2017.....cummins last contract came up in 2007.....and was renewed ANOTHER 10 years!!!

It would be corporate suicide for DC to remove the cummins from these trucks, considering these trucks account for about 25-40% (ive heard these number tossed around), of all dodge ram sales INCLUDING the 1500, the ram accounts for 50% of dodges sales!! So if DODGE wanted too go broke considering loss sales and breach of contract litigation sure, untill then it is all a bunch of malarky!!

Diamler Chrysler is getting rid of all 3 of its HD diesel engines(Mercedes MBE 900,MBE 4000, Detroit Series 60) at the end of 09. With the 2010 Emmisions standards, they will be using an all new "Common Platform" engine as they're calling it. All of thier new engines, no matter what displacement, will share the same fuel system, so much as fuel system parts will be interchangable between all of their new engines. They will also be using urea injection, or at least, thats the plan.
