Unhappy zero throttle launch speed

I have 2004-1/2, 3500, 4x4, with the six speed. When backing up the truck with a trailer the speed surges up and will settle back down after about 15 feet on a light weight tailer. With a heavy load it goes even faster and will not throttle down. In a tight space this can be a problem. The truck will not let you drive, it takes over. As you known putting on the brakes does not help the engine ignores the brakes. The only way you can control the speed is with the clutch. The dealership tells me that nothing can be done, I find this hard to believe. Has any one had this problem and is there a fix?

Thanks,
Gary Brady

I like the zero throttle launch. I never notice it anymore. Like you said - use the clutch.

Just don't get caught "sleeping" in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic when the engine decides to "wake up" and want to push a stack of cars in front of you - like I said, "use the clutch".

It is working exactly like it is suppose to, I love it. If you feel the need to go that slow put it in Low Range.

diddo.

if you need to be going that slow, the drag of the 4x4 even on dry pavement ain't going to make any difference. use the 4lo if you got it..

its the govener the engine will stall so the ECM decides it needs to take over to prevent this fethering the clutch or better yet using 4 low are your only good options however if I remember right on 2nd gen you could get a kit to shift the transfer case into low and keep it in 2wd maybe someone knows if it can be done on 3rd gen trucks I never looked into it so I don't know.

sorry spudman, it can't be done on the 3rd gens. 2Lo (or lack thereof) has been discussed many times here. I'd like that capability myself.

Gary will get used to it in a bit.
