i have put 700-800 lbs of salt bags in the back, then u can use them for the water softener in the spring-summer...but i worry about them splitting open. has not happened yet (knock on wood)

The father-in -Law also does the salt trick. Works great for him.

Not far from northern VA I guess I could swing by a 7-11 and do the same.

Thats a thought, I may do that, it's not like I need it that toften where I live, I just was thinking this winter may bring more snow, and my truck id crap in 2wd, even in wet grass on a hill, and yes I can use 4wd, but I would like to save it for last resort, especially at higher speeds not have to use it.

I just can't resist! Here's the DTR recommended way.

Tried that once here. D@mn truck was overloaded before I even knew what happened!
So I started driving south real fast! The smart ones caught on and bailed! Kept that up until I had the right amount of weight! Problem is if you want 800lbs in the bead you gotta carry 8 of 'em!

I guess in a few years when the bed of your truck rots out, you'll know why.

I used a 4 foot chunk of 1 foot wide steel I-beam from the main support of a house. I drilled a hole in the middle, put 1" all thread and filled it with concrete. With the all thread I could bolt it to the cross-member of the truck and had some good weight and it never moved. Man it was heavy, it was all I could do to slide it in the truck myself

A few bales of straw soaked with water, let them freeze and you have your weight for traction and yet easily removable during the winter if needed.

HAH! I made both you and John suggest it.

Now, THAT'S self control!
