Will a APPS reset help me?
Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (I think).
I'm going to try the reset one more time but leaving the batteries disconnected for longer and also checking and cleaning the connections to it. I have a feeling that this might have something to do with my playing around with my sons over the weekend. I really thing it got confused with me screwing around. Well, I hope that it what it is anyway.
So anyone with an 03. Can you tell me where they hide the PCM?

Dammit these codes won't clear. I just did the APPS reset again. And whether is worked or not I'mnot sure. But after sitting for over and hour with the key on and both batteries disconnected. I still have the codes.
I didn't even start it up to check it and the same three codes are there. I'm assuming the fan code and battery one would be gone until the truck was started and the error repeated. I know on my Charger I can pull a fuse and clear the codes. Is there a similar trick on these trucks? The battery thing just isn't working for me.

I am actually having a similar problem. My throttle stopped responding at times and at others it would cut in and out rapidly. I changed the fuel filter yesterday and it seemed to solve the problem. Today it did it again and now I have a code P2121, pedal position sensor 1 performance/rationality. How the heck to I fix that? Im a rookie so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well I pulled the apps out today and messed with it. Basically tried to clean it or at least get and dirt I found off. And make sure the connection was good.
I'm not sure that it isn't working. I'm kind of convinced at this point that until I get the codes to clear once I'll nver know if the pedal is right or wrong.
Anyone out there know the part # Dodge or Cummins called the APPS (APS)
Redracer I'm not sure. I think if the apps starts to act up the easist thing is to replace it. Good uck getting a good price. I saw elsewhere here numbers in the 400 range.

So i am wondering after some further reading if I can perform the apps reset and solve the problem. I dont know that I have 400 bucks for a new one. The gen 2 reset is posted everywhere but not gen 3 (mine is a 2003 model). Has anyone had any success with doing the apps reset via just disconnecting the battery?
Diesbull- If you know someone with a programmer, they could clear them. Some auto parts stores will check and clear codes for free. But not sure if thats diesels also. If you call a Cummins shop with your engine serial number they can get you a part number. Heck, my Cummins shop even gave me the number to a company that buys their old stock when Cummins changes manufacters. ( knowing the guy behind the counter helped I'm sure). I paid a little over 300.
Redracer- they were in 3 places over the years, depends on year. Mines mounted in front of the intake horn as should yours. The battery disconnect alone wont reset the Apps. Moving the pedal through the full range of motion is how the ECM makes a voltage reference for idle and WOT.
Once codes are cleared, turn key on (dont start). Slowly press the pedal to floor. Hold a second.Slowly release pedal. Turn key off. your reset.

Thanks for the advice. I guess in the morning I will try the battery disconnect then cycle the pedal and key. Maybe that will save me some money but I fear that, like most other things in life, it'll have to be done the hard way. I'll post the results. Thanks again!
Does Cummins Part 3970085 (APPS manual) fit an 03. From the picture I can't tell. It looks like it might be right but it doesn't have the plastic case around it. Mine is under the battery.
Are the sensors the same from engine mount to under battery?

Ok so I am sorry for my ignorance here but Im having a hard time with this. I tried the battery disconnect with key on and the check engine light is still on with the P2121 code is still there. I have been looking for the APPS and followed the instructions i got to locate it. I was told that it would probably be in front of the intake horn. I removed the plastic cover in front of the intake horn and found the control below in the picture. Now, im no mechanic but this doesnt scream APPS to me. Someone else said it might be below the battery on the driver side. A couple of cables from the control in the picture run to a small metal contraption below the battery. Is that my APPS or is that something else? Just above the control in the picture you can see the intake horn for a reference point. Thanks for the help
Not sure. Mine is under the battery. It kind of looks like that but there is a back box that I'm assuming all the eletronics are in. But it does have the 1 cable going to and arm with a big return spring around that. And that connects to the electrical box I mentioned.
What year is your truck? \
BTW mine wouldn't clear codes either withthe batter disconnect message. I'm guessing because the part is just bad?

The APPS will be at the end of your throttle cable and look like a little POT. Follow the cable down to whereever it goes, by the IP or under the battery and look there. The cable should connect to a bell crank that will eiher be a part of the APPS or connect to it.
You cannnot clear the codes by just connecting the batteries on these newer trucks. They retain enough power a portion of the ECU for quite a while. A scan tool or programmer is needed to clear them completely.
