wierd noise
so only in reverse, I hear a high pitch squeaking timed with wheel rotation. I thought it might be my bearings or something, it sounded like it was in the front, so I got my wife to drive it in reverse for me, and it seems to actually be coming from the rear driveline. any ideas? are these greaseable, and why would it only happen in reverse?
maybe rear driveshaft u-joints? When mine went bad i could hear it squeaking when i backed out of the driveway because the slight incline changed the driveshaft angle a little, making the u-joints complain. When i took them out they were dryer than a popcorn fart.... and not greasable. can be replaced with greasable ones though.......
I removed the driveshaft and took it to a local shop that only does driveline services. Had them put in new u-joints at both ends (spicer or mooge i think w/ grease fittings) and balance it when they were done. I had a driveline vibration so i was more interesed in getting it balanced, was ~175$ for everything and fixed the problem. Easy to remove the driveline, maybe a little work to get the old u-joints out if seized(i think the shop uses a press), otherwise pretty easy. I think parts should be less than 100$?
