Welcome aboard!!!! 8) 8)

To make it a short answer, the Cummins Diesel engine is offered in 2 different power outputs for consumers. The first standard issue is coupled to the Automatic transmission and is rated for 250 HP. The HO or Hi Output Cummins is mated with the manual 6 speed and soon to be released heavy duty Automatic and produces 305 HP.

The HO is just the designation for the engine rating..

Now go and test drive one!!! To add to that just a bit....they are both turbo charged engines.

Dave,

As Lil' Dog stated, the standard output (SO - 245 HP) is mated to the auto and the 5 speed equipped trucks, the High Output (HO - 305 HP) is mated to the 6 speed. From the few trucks I've seen so far (5 or 6) the SO appears to get 1 - 2 mpg better fuel economy (up here in the frozen north anyway). However the HO does have one thing that I think is awful nice: Oil injection into the skirt of the piston for cooling. I think in the long run, the HO will likely be the better engine for turning up the power (if that sort of thing flicks your bic).

Rod

FYI Gm has used oil sprayed pistons since 1997 in their 6.5 l diesels. [eyecrazy]
