Why does PS lines run to valve block on firewall?

whats that block on the firewall that the hyd PS lines connect to. isnt the pump, steering rad, and reservoir all you need in that simple hyd circuit?

hydro boost for the brakes, since there is no vaccume for a typical gasser brake booster.

Sallyman1, dont mean to highjack your thread but I just posted for the same question. I didn't see yours until mine was up. Three weeks ago I had a power steering pump shaft snap at the spline end and fall out of the pump(160k miles). Replaced the pump with a NAPA rebuilt that felt week from the get go. A few nights ago it wouldn't turn the wheels at idle so I replaced it again today. New pump turns the wheels better than the truck did new off the lot. But now my brakes are acting weird, pedal just doesn't feel right. Hope someone with past experience in this area can steer us to a better understanding of the relationship between the power steering pump and the brake system.

The power steering pump feeds the hydro boost for the brakes. Try several lock to lock turns of the steering wheel to bleed the lines of air...other than that I have no idea.
