OK, I'd like to try find one of these HO "600's" to take for a test drive. What date did they start putting them in the trucks, and are there any other distinguishing features about the engine bay that reaveal the higher powered engine other than a cat?

Not sure when they started putting them in, but apparently the fan shroud is connected to the engine rather than to the radiator. This permits a tighter fit around the fan for improved cooling as the engine moves around on its mounts.

Has anyone found out what auto trans will be hooked up to the
new 2004.5 Cummins 600 ?...Is it the 48RE after all ? Exhaust
brake compatible ?

Thank you
Happy New Year to Everyone !!

Is there anything to read (offical) from DC about the 48RE,
Exhaust brake compatible, and any changes they made ?

Is there a link someone could post about these announcements
from DC ?...I read the initial announcements about the Cummins
600 changes but nothing about the auto trans (48RE)

Thanks in advance

Currently, it is not. In 2004.5 it will be.

Thanks for the update...I understand currently the 48RE in not
approved for the EB. Anything to read about the 2004.5 48RE
hooked up to the Cummins 600 at all ?...Was it announced
the 48RE would be the auto trans for this Cummins 600?

I have not seen anything yet and was wondering what people
dug up in the past 2 weeks?

Only thing I remember reading was that DC statement regarding
the "pre-equipped" for an exhaust brake in the original Cummins 600 announcement. Everyone was speculating about the auto
trans at that time.

Has anyone heard if the 2003/2004 48RE will ever be offered
a kit from DC for an exhaust brake ?

Thanks

What are the changes to the 48RE that will now allow the use of an exhaust brake?

There was a thread over at TDR and from what I remember, they were working on replacing a thrust washer to get the 48RE Exhaust Brake compatiable. The guy giving the info was saying that there was no guarntee that it would be EB compatiable even in '04.5. BTW, the 1st change that Dodge made to the Tranny to try and make it EB compatible was to have the Cummins ECM control the 48RE as of '04.

Yes the 48re is EB ready, as per the article found on the TDR home page. The information supplied was from the DC source. Unfortunately, I can not supply a link or a quote as the TDR server is currently being repaired.

BTW, you'll have to join TDR to read the article.

From what I have been hearing, the new 600's should be hitting the dealer's lots around February. It seems the quickest way to tell from the engine bay will be the fan shroud, which has been mentioned. Of course, I'm sure DCX will change the badges or valve cover also, they've got to let everyone know that a monster is living under the hood.

DPG is correct! And the cost of $135 is what DC is charging for the increase in HP and Torque over the 04 HO -
"600"= 04HO+$135.
