Pull old filter out
Pour a can of Sea Foam in the canister
Replace with new filter
Start it up and run it like &$^$#!!!!!!

If it still does it, you need some injectors.

As I noted in $oC@l CTD's thread I am having the same issue with my 2006 5.9L. Took the truck to them last week so they could keep it over night and let it start in the morning. They called me back the next day and said they needed the truck for a few days this week so they could diagnose which injectors were causing my issue. Dropped it off Monday afternoon and still haven't heard from them and it's now Thursday. My truck didn't even smoke half as much as yours and they knew there was an issue. I didn't even buy the truck from them as I got it used with 2600 miles on it.

Why the hell do these dealers want to give customers that paid darn good money for their product such a hard time at getting things fixed? Man up to your products problems and fix them!!

Also, which web site do you guys recommend for purchasing fuel filters? Thinking of getting the Baldwin 5 micron.

I totally agree, what are dealers thinking. This was the second truck I purchased from this dealer and my grandfather has purchased 2 other trucks from them, the 92' in my sig and a 01'. Haven't started the truck today, going to wait till tomorrow or Saturday.

I have a 07 with 43,000 miles. When I start it in the morning it will put out one puff of white/gray smoke and be fine. I really don't get the rough idling just the one puff of smoke. My mileage has been fine also. Do you guys think I have the same problem? Sorry to steal thead. Thanks.

Sounds normal to me, I think as long as it doesn't look like my video your doing good. Though if your getting white smoke, maybe you actually need the TSB that got put on my truck.

My truck started puffing a little white smoke, and stumbled a couple times after having ti 3 years. I took it to the dealer, and they said the injectors were within spec, and they did the flash for white smoke. Well, it still puffed smoke, not bad but it never did it before. I ran 2 tanks with about 10ozs 2 stroke added, and now no more smoke. My guess is that I had an injector leaking down, and the 2 stroke helped - that or just coincidence. I did try Power Service, a couple other additives that did not make any difference.

This is excellent advice and is the most fool proof way to id what cyl is the problem child.

You most definitely have an injector dropping out.

Good luck,

I have a number of post on the forum bout this exact same issue on my '06. The dealer worked on it twice. The first time they replaced 1 of the injectors. That fixed the issue for a short time. The next time, they replaced them all. Have not had the problem since. They said Bosch had a bad batch of injectors in the '06 models. Good luck. pcm

Well I went out and started the truck this morning after it sat since Wednesday evening. Here's what it did:

What do you all think now? It still blows blue smoke, so if a new fuel filter doesn't change that this week, then its still going back to the dealership because its never blown blue smoke.

If a new fuel filter doesn't fix that, take it back and have them FIX her again...that's still too much blue smoke. You can see where it is even hazing after the big initial puff...that isn't normal at all. Seriously bud, have them go and check out the NEW trucks in the lot with you...if they don't, you're shouldn't either. Simple as that.

The reason the dealers are hesitant to change injectors is 2 fold. One is warranty work does not pay well. Face it, it is a fact. Two is they have to justify their diagnosis to Dodge and send back the "bad parts". If they diagnose wrong they get charged back. It is a crappy system.

You got injector issues, there is no doubt in my mind. Make them earn their keep, just be polite about it.

Although I have large injectors my truck poofs pretty good white and grey on start up and then hazes for a while. I continously check my oil for fuel and keep a careful eye on my mileage and all is well. How is your mileage. If you do have a bad injector(Which I think you do) It is easy to figure out which one. Pull the valve cover off and disconnect the wires for each injector one at a time. Start the truck each time. When it quites smoking then the injecter that is disconnected with no smoke is your bad one. I don't think you should have to do this yourself but If you want it done right sometimes you have to do it yourself. Hope you get it figured out

That's the same thing I figure, they don't get paid for it and there hesitant about it.

I may have to give that a try, and I agree that the best way to get it done is to do yourself.

Well, Tuesday I changed the old filter out and replaced it with a 5 micron Baldwin. I took it for a drive, then let it sit til' the next day. Started it on Wednesday, and no blue smoke or rough idle, go figure. So I drove it again today, same thing, perfectly fine. So if your truck's smoking and idling rough like its got an injector leak, it might just be the fuel filter. I'm glad to be driving it regular again now, man did I miss it.
