I am looking at an 03 with a 5 speed. I am in need of some info about it. Someone told me that it had the standard engine since it has the 5 speed. What is the difference between this engine and the HO engine? I'm thinking a few more HP wouldn't hurt. Is the standard engine just as easy to bomb or what's the difference? Any help will be appreciated.

i believe that the HO has 50 more horse, but is still a 5 speed. there is a badge on the side of the engine that tells you how many horse power it has (drivers side). 250 is SO and 300 or 305 (cant remember which exactly) is HO. the one thing you want to look for is if it is the 47re or the 48re tranny. I believe on the same badge that has the horsepower, it will have the build date, if its after 01/03 it has the 48re supposedly (mine has it at least) you can have a dealer run the VIN to see which it actually has.

 

The 305/555's were equipped with the NV5600 manual transmission.
