that is one of the three possible setups for an 04.5 tps, throttle position sensor, talk about a nightmare for after market suppliers, I thought ford was the only one that messed around with parts bin clearing duringh a model year......

I'm glad the '05 and up are drive-by-wire throttles!

Yours is going to be over under the drivers side battery. This is the setup they used for the 6 speed trucks normally.

???, if the '05 up are any different, isn't it just a difference in the type of sensor for the acellerator pedal position?

Mine is a 6 speed 04.5 and it does NOT have one.

Just a mid model year change. Nothing to worry about.

Be glad you dont have one!! They are a pain if they go bad and expensive to boot!

My 04.5 has that set up. Is there any way to convert it to the newer fly by wire?

There have been 3 different types of APPS used depending on year and transmission. One is one the engine like the pictures, another goes under the driver's battery tray and the newest is mounted to the accelerator pedal itself and is drive-by-wire.

Technically all 3 are drive by wire. The throttle cable only goes to the sensor, if the sensor is mounted at the pedal then no throttle cable. The throttle cable does not control anything more than an electrical sensor that then tells the engine computer what to do with the other functions. So any 3rd gen is really drive by wire.

These are just semantics; no throttle cable = drive by wire in the vernacular.
