What a Truck!

Finally got to test her out, hauled appox. 11,500# down I-10 to New Orleans, a 160 mile trip. put her on 65mph and let her do. she had a little trouble on the Baton Rouge Miss. River bridge, but she never fell below 58 mph. "What a Truck". I think dodge might have got it right this time. avg. around 10.5-11.2 mpg. I wish she would shift a little more firmer. see attached pics. ;D

Is that a 5510? I really think that is going to be my choice when the $ comes together. Nice truck too!!

Interested in your comment about shifting firmer - which shifts in particular or is it all shifts?

I pulled a load about half the weight of yours last weekend and did not like the 3 - 4 shift at all. From dead stop going towards highway speeds the 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 were fine (although smooth and nice, not really "firm&quot. Around 50 mph and about 2000 or 2100 rpm the truck pretty much stopped accelerating for a bit while it waited (and waited) to shift from 3 - 4. Once it finally shifted into 4th and dropped 700 rpm or so it bogged a little (like too tall a gear for too low a speed) then got into the powerband and accelerated to 65 mph in short order.

Wondered if you had any experience like that?

Thanks!

Re:What a Truck!

nice tractor. looks like a 4020 but they mad a bunch of tractors that looked the same from a pic.

who has the most miles on their 48re? My dad wants a new truck and think its going to be an auto : I would like the 6spd but when many guy are going to be driveing it he thinks the auto would be better even thought they will be pulling loads that are fairly heavy. we deliver and pick up JD tractors every day for our dealership. right now we have a F450 roll back and when hitting a hill it pukes everytime. needless to say its for sale ;D

Re:What a Truck!

I know I'm a low mileage driver as I've only got 15,000 miles on my 48RE but it's been flawless since day one. I owned a Duramax with the Allison and loved the Allison...I'd have to put it on par with the Allison at this point but time will tell....

yeah it's pretty much sounds like the same thing. 3rd to 4th not firmer enough for me with a load like this. I don't recall stalling any though, but i try and keep the RPM's up till i get to speed. I check it out some more when i transfer the tractor back down this way in a couple of days.
