what is a tone ring mod? sorry to reask but i though some might have a clue

 

It is a simple change to the crankshaft position wheel on the front of the crankshaft. Check out this thred in the 3rd gen performance section. Took me about 1.5 hours, it did smooth out the idle and improve low end response.

thank you, I doubt I would try this, but at least now I have an idea of what everyone is talkin about

 

If you just loosen your crank bolts, you may be able to advance it some without even pulling it off. Many guys have done this and had good results. Why would one not at least try that??????
