What should me boost be?
What should me boost be?
WE just hooked up the scanner to my 2003 ram 3500. Boost is reading 15-18 PSI when you rap the motor once. At 2350RPM the boost is 18 Psi according to the snap on scanner.
Truck is stock other than a whistler air filter and the cat is no longer with us.
If these are not good numbers, then where would be a good place to look?
Thank You for the help!

Is that sitting still just giving it throttle or are you going down the road with it under load? Under load i believe u should b in the mid 20's with boost. As for a good mod i would start with a programmer. I run a bully dog power pup on level 3 which is its highest level. Im getting around 19mpg and pushing roughly 100hp over stock, so that may b sumthing to look at.
That is in neutral no load. I am going to drive it this afternoon and record so I can check it under load.
I want to make sure I have no issues before I add a programmer.
225K miles on it. Going to head to Mopar Nationals Next week from California
I am suffering from a power loss so that is why I started with the turbo

When u have no load on the motor i dont think the computor will allow it to go full boost. Check it going dn the road and c wat psi u get. B sure to check your codes first, then begin diag on your truck. It may b sumthing simple. When u get everything sorted out going with a programmer will b a good start. I looked at programmers for wks b4 buying a bully dog. Its rated kinda low on power compared to others, but im nt looking to put dn hugh power gains as this is my daily driver with ovr 250k on it. But it puts dn alot of power for me and i only paid bout 250 for it so its a heck of a deal.

My 03 won't run much over 20-22 psi running empty but hang a trailer on the hitch weighing about 8k or more and it goes up to 30-32. Maybe the ECM is controlling the fuel or maybe the combo of Banks 6-gun & speedloader chipped double stacked causes it to back off, but loaded will usually be more boost. It really isn't much of an indication of the health of the engine until you load the motor and start putting the HP and Tq to the ground.

if you have low power don't overlook the obvious. Check for boost leaks. Boots, intercooler, intake and plenum. Do a pressure test if you can to be sure.
I really cant say what a scanner without a load should say, but I've never gotten over 32 psi on my 2003 stock turbo under heavy load (before or after mods). Driving around will run from the mid teens to mid 20's depending on circumstance.
Look for 28 - 32 psi stock hard pull WOT.

you have an 03, it will read 14 psi (atmospheric pressure, @ sea level) with the engine off. your stock boost, with your HE341, under heavy load would be 37 PSI on a scanner (14 PSI+ 23PSI boost) the waste gauge is set at about 23 PSI. 04.5 have higher boost numbers.
your numbers look normal to me, I would look at my fuel supply. what lift pump do you have?
